The best idea i saw with people with 3D printers was them 3D printing gears and cogs that are no longer available to repair vintage cassette decks and boomboxes

Nobody wants to go to a street festival just to buy something they can buy at Hobby Lobby anytime for half the price

There are people making custom prosthetics for people and animals using 3D printers, which is super cool. THAT is the kind of 3D printing I more than approve of.

The amount of junk I see at "craft" fairs is crazy

One of my neighbors, 85 years young, has a room full of half made stock (wood/fabric/paint/pottery/beads and jewelry) and when I asked her about it...the answer was heart breaking.

Back in the 70s and 80s she had a booth and sold hand made dolls, painted wooden ornaments and hand made jewelry...but the catalog orders started becoming famous and convenient and cheaper for people to buy from.
But the crime was, her art work, along with hundreds or creative people's work, was stolen and made in cheap factories in foreign countries and then American companies bought them in bulk and sold through catalogs..

This act killed countless creative people and drowned homes in counterfeit articles instead of genuine pieces of art that's been handmade by true creators.

I feel like what's happening currently is the updated version of stolen creativity.

She looked so disappointed when she was telling me the story, it was more than just stolen artwork, her income was killed, her enjoyment of creating each piece was stolen too...her creativity was buried!
I felt awful... I feel awful for all of those people who can't show or sell their creative work because they worry about it being stolen and copied. It's a crime!

My daughter quit her full-time job of over 15 years where she was making really good money to start her own pottery business. She spends days making handmade pottery in her studio that her and her husband built just for her to be able to do it and she sells at craft fairs all year long. She uploads videos to Facebook and Instagram showing her making her handmade stuff and people actually steal her videos and post to their 3-D websites and sell cheap ass knock offs under her name. She’s always having to defend the fact that that is not her stuff when people get inferior product. Makes me so mad because she works really hard and sells beautiful handmade one of a kind products.

My daughter and I use to like going to craft fairs together. We have a lot around us all the time. We dont even go to them anymore. Its all 3D printed junk and cheap jewelry from Temu. One lady had dog treats that she bought, not made and she bagged them up in little bags and tried to sell them. She wanted $10 for 3 treats. The whole box of treats probably cost $10. She thought she could open a box and sell them as 3 packs just bc she had them in plastic bags she got from temu and tied ribbons around them to tie them closed.

Im a custom leather worker. Haven't been to a market since before covid. Im tired of making heirloom quality works for people whom want below walmart prices.

I have a few co workers who do 3d printing and they have made me a few CUSTOM (key word there, custom as in their own original files made based on what i wanted/needed). These items have included wheels for a a customer scooter aid for a tortoise that due to a car hitting it left them paralyzed for the back legs and right front arm. We made several versions to refine and resize and finally got one that has allowed this tortoise to regain his quality of life by being able to zoom around again.

Hopefully you all can see the HUGE difference between that and stealing someone else low effort file and even more of a difference of trying to pass it off as your own and sell it. 3D printed goods can have value, but i have zero sympathy for someone who sells slop at insane prices at a craft fair.

Gluing letters to wood is a kindergarten craft my kiddo would bring home from school.

This is the exact reason why my wife and I got out of the craft sale market. It's over flooded with the same stuff. Now I just do custom works for friends and family.

The farmers market near my house only allows vendors if what they bring is self created. No resales, no 3d printed trash. It’s pretty nice.

i bought a 3d printer 3 or 4 years back with the same idea as a lot of the people in this video, then craft fairs started to explode with people selling this junk. i never did try to sell any of the prints after seeing how poorly most of the vendors did on 3d printed stuff. now days my 3d printer just sits ready to go when i break something plastic and need a replacement part, and for that it is awesome.

I repurpose thrifted denim and other reclaimed fabrics into bags, accessories, and home decor. About a year ago I was rejected from a consignment store that supposedly sells local crafts. I thought then that maybe I make what people don’t want to buy, or maybe I need to work on my design and quality. Soon after I saw 3D printing dragon in the window of that store. Wait, really?! Make it make sense.

As a crocheter, I appreciate this video! I’ve been to a few craft fairs & so many folks were not willing to pay for my plushies. Only a few actually appreciated my skill & thought my prices were beyond fair.
Hours & hours of work & my prices were always super fair compared to others, but I was constantly told my stuff was too expensive. It was infuriating! Too many people went there expecting the kind of prices you’d see at the stores.

@cgraham6 4 weeks ago

Most people just have enough junk around their homes gathering dust. If you’re into cheap decor, you can get it at a thousand different places.

I run a henna tattoo booth at fairs. I often get other vendors wanting to trade henna for other product, which Im always happy to do. I usually just do the henna and then ask them to bring me whatever they want from their booth of roughly equivalent value. One day this lady says she sells jewelry, and she wants a 40$ henna. I do it and she says she'll bring me some bracelets, asks my favorite colors. 5 mins later she comes back with two bracelets made of plastic and wood beads with those white plastic beads with black letters on them, all the kind of stuff you'd give your kid on a rainy day to make a friendship bracelet. I could believe it, but I had a line so I just said thanks and tried to get back to customers. She must have noticed because she said "do you like them?" And i was like "oh, yeah" because i was embarrassed for her and just wanted to move on to paying customers rather than try to argue for better payment. I cannot believe an adult woman thought that was worth $40. Not 3d printing but just made me think of how delusional people can be these things

@DiaryofaShadowHealer 4 weeks ago

Can we also talk about paying to get into the "market" to spend money. And when I walk in... it's mostly 3D printed dragons and temu items. It's gross.
