Britain's Oldest Lullaby Reveals Something Extraordinary | Time With Tempest

Time With Tempest

What can we learn about a seemingly simple and straightforward 7th century manuscript? Hear how historians are identifying King Arthur through Y Gododdin, an epic battle poem where no warrior is described as being as great as a mysterious “Arthur”. See Britain’s oldest lullaby, Pais Dinogad, through the eyes of biologists shaken by a new, astounding possibility about the extinction of a captivating creature.

Huge thanks to Will from Will Walking for letting me use his beautiful rendition of Pais Dinogad!

Me in high school (just starting on the history track) would have never believed that what's written in the margins/backs of texts and paintings would be equally (if not more) important as the texts and paintings themselves. Now I tend to end up looking in those areas before the actual piece on display. 😬

Lynxes are adorable. So fluffy! The fur was probably the main attraction for the hunt. Probably super warm.

Brilliant, brilliant, so informative.

Just a tiny, tiny word on pronunciation - Y Gododdin sounds like Uh Godotheen - dd is a welsh letter in it’s own right, and is more like the ‘th’ in english …

Dinogad - emphasis on Din and then Og - Ad - Din-og-ad…..

outstanding video , you should read the book " Arthur of the Gododdin " , in my opinion the best theory on King Arthur , the story part of the book is told from the perspective of a little girl who is the mother of Aneirin - Dwywei , the second part of the book presents a theory of a historical Arthur of the Gododdin by studying of historical sources , good stuff , be well Michael

It was actually originally written in cumbria, in cumbric which is similar to old Welsh.

Anerin was the son of Caddow / Cawr king of Strathclyde. His brothers were Hael (saint Michael), Saint Maelok, Saint Gildas etc. Saint Glidas's father was killed by Arthur. Cat/cath is a prefix for a battle site and reath is still called reath today and is next to Hamilton. Castle Caddow is also located at Hamiton and is referred to in Arthorian stories as the court of Cado. O son of Clydno (Clyde) of lasting fame. I will sing to thee a song of praise, without beginning.
