I have one and replaced the cylinder with a 45 colt upgrade. Is very accurate at 50 yards. But the stock while cool looking is horrible. I cut a piece of wood to fill in the curve and covered it up with a piece of buck skin, looks nice and makes it way more funtional.
Im a small guy, 5'8 and about 140 pounds so my 1858 carbine fits me perfectly and the stock fits my shoulder perfectly and doesn't poke me at all. I've even let a few friends shoot it and they all complain how awkward and uncomfortable it is. But for me it just feels perfect. I dont know, since its a carbine maybe its just meant for smaller people
I have one of those. I love it. Yes. That stock is beautiful. I really enjoy your videos. I have a few modern guns. But these are by far my favorite. Very relaxing to go out in the back yard with my dog, and shoot old paint can bandits. Have a great day.
FYI, should you make a tapered dowel rod, you can by using lapping compound taper the chamber mouth thus not shaving the bullet, but swagging it. The ball will fit tighter.
Great video, very entertaining. The carbine was neat, but that vista you were using as a backdrop for the bit at the end was breathtaking! I'm guessing somewhere in Arizona, but what time of year was it filmed?

Great video, one of the most interesting firearms of the old west
