You mean we can't believe what Hollywood tells us? Say it isn't so.

For truth - on a street in Socorro, New Mexico, a face off between a criminal and Elfego Baca (the same Elfego Baca immortalized on Disney's TV), happened when the criminal stopped Elfego on the street. They both drew their guns and Elfego, el gato, was the only one still standing.

Gene Hackman "The real secret is keeping a cool head. Other man's in a hurry he'll likely miss." Reporter "But what if he's cool headed AND faster? " GH "Then he'll most likely k!ll you."

I was raised around a guy named Billy Wesson that lived on bank of Cache River that almost Paved his Driveway with Spent Shells. He Practiced everyday, he never had to Aim to shoot his target, he would just pull the gun and shoot the Target, while I was riding around with him in a Boat shooting Snakes, he simply drew his gun and Fired, the Snake's Head was Gone. He told me anyone that has to Aim in order to hit the Target has not Practiced near enough. He was also a Quick Draw Artist...

I like how @ 6:31 on all the cartridges the primer has been fired. You can see the dent in the primer.

Dick Shaw vs John Jobson. A Gunsmoke classic.

Wyatt Earp said about fast draw... "Take your time, but do it in a hurry!"

We played with a CO2 revolver as children. I found that I had better accuracy with the cross draw. The side draw may have been quicker but not by much. It took longer to aim.

In "Shadow on the Trail," by Zane Gray, he details how some gunfighters removed their triggers and fired the weapon by throwing the gun forward on the draw while simultaneously snapping the hammer back with the thumb.and letting it fall. Is there any historical support for that description?

For some of us who have served in military knows that they teach you to hold your breath and squeeze the trigger.

Another Hollywood myth is that if you get shot centre of mass, you'll fly off your feet backwards.

Billy the Kid stacked up the majority of his 21 kills with a Winchester 1873, not his .36 cal pistola. As it is today, gunfighters preffered a rifle over a pistol.
