The gaming industry alone during the 80’s deserves its own video.

It's nice to see an actual person speaking, as opposed to an AI narrator.

I remember the 80's feeling different from the 70's gradually each year until we got to the end of 1983. Then boom 1984 was like big bright neon colored Swatch, Rubik's Cube, IZOD, 80's! And since the video didn't mention her, Madonna was sort of the star that showed up at the same time. Michael and Prince sort of bridged the 70's and 80's and then Madonna was like the pure 80's pop star who was made for the MTV era.

The biggest reason for the quick and crazy fashion of the 80’s was the rise of music Video’s on MTV

As someone who graduated high school in 1987, please remember that what we have been taught by the media to think of as “the 80’s” in the US was roughly late 1982-1990 (and then BOOM grunge.) My sixth grade through 8th grade years were still pretty 70’s. Early 80’s fashion was really conservative. Prairie skirts were as exciting as it got. Recognizably “80’s” fashion really hit in 1983.

I’m the high school class of 1984.
Many people in the decade including myself felt that they were living in a very special time in history.

80s were pretty much what we thought 2000 was going to be.
talking cars, high tech, futuristic and wealthy

Here we are in the 2020s.... and nostalgia for the late 80s / early 90s is peaking, everywhere.

Born in 1977, the 80s were amazing for a kid.

I was born in 1970, and if I could do the 80s all over again, I would. It wasn't all good, but it was a great time.

Being born in 2001, I've always wanted to go back to previous decades just to see what it was like, even if just for a day.

‘50s nostalgia was more of a ‘70s thing. American Graffiti, Grease, Happy Days etc.

Born 1973 here. In the UK, the 80s aesthetic actually started in 1980 when the New Romantics and mags like iD and The Face burst onto the scene. But in the US, it took awhile to change. Only when MTV showcased the new wave of British bands like Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls and Yazoo did the "80s look" got more widespread.

Quick correction; while Glam rock was popular in the 80s, it was not from the 80s. Glam rock emerged out of the Art rock scene in the early 1970s.

Don't forget the rise of the VHS video tape and movie rentals. I still remember the family nights of renting a movie and watching it together with a big bowl of popcorn.

As someone who was 14 in 1980 the thing that stands out is the wonderful embrace of WEIRD. It was cool to be weird. That frenetic weirdness could be seen in MTVs Liquid TV and David Lynch films like Naked Lunch. I've never seen a cultural embrace of weirdness since then.
