1 John explained, complete and verse by verse. This is the beloved disciple's most tender letter, and every Christian needs to know it. The apostle John was once called a "son of thunder." By the end of his life he was writing to frightened believers with one purpose: "that ye may know that ye have eternal life" (1 John 5:13).

In this Bible study we walk through all five chapters of First John, slowly and in order, using the King James Version. Along the way we look at the original Greek words and at life in first-century Ephesus. You'll see why "God is love" is far deeper than a greeting-card phrase, and why the tests in this letter were written to comfort believers, not to frighten them.

In this teaching:
✦ "That which our hands have handled": the God who could be touched (1 John 1:1–4)
✦ God is light: walking in the light without fear (1 John 1:5–7)
✦ "If we confess our sins": why God is faithful AND just to forgive (1 John 1:9)
✦ Jesus our Advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1–2)
✦ Love not the world: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life (1 John 2:15–17)
✦ "Behold, what manner of love": we are the children of God (1 John 3:1–3)
✦ He came to loose the works of the devil (1 John 3:8)
✦ When our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart (1 John 3:20)
✦ Greater is He that is in you (1 John 4:4)
✦ God is love, and perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:8, 4:18)
✦ The victory that overcomes the world (1 John 5:4)
✦ Assurance of salvation: how you can KNOW you have eternal life (1 John 5:13)

If you have ever doubted your salvation, or carried a fear of God that never quite leaves, this letter was written for you.
