Probably the wildest thing about this situation is that people found out Somerton was alive because he was posting nudes on Twitter. But then it turned out that he had stolen them from Grindr. Dude literally plagiarised hole

"Voice of the queer community" Yeah, he used his voice to speak the words that the rest of the queer community wrote

"please forgive me for plagiarism. I bonked my head and just found out I have ADHD and my dad can't read." Is such a wild justification.

"I can't remember which words were mine and which were copy-pasted..." Bro, that's worse. You understand how that's worse, right?

UPDATE: About two weeks ago james somerton attempted to be a wedding photographer by using a portfolio full of stock images.

James had this habit that I really want my fellow queers to notice: he hated women to the point of parody, but whenever he wanted to complain about women, he added the word "straight" in front of "women" so he could try and reframe it as being about puncnching up at oppressors.  It wasn't about that. It was about the fact that he hates women, and that includes literally anyone AFAB. That's why he never cared that a lot of the "straight women" he complained about weren't straight or women.

He's not talking to all of us. He's speaking for a select group to hear him. He's fishing. He's fishing hard for people with hearts big enough to maybe grab onto one of his numerous cries of victimhood and give him another swipe of their bank account. What a creep.

One thing that i hated that people didnt talk about much was his misogyny disguised as gay activism. Like one time he called many trans mask and enbys women (example rebbeca suger) talking about women fetishizing gay men and queerness, and acting like gay men had more oppression than lesbians and queer women

"I'm a cis white male that used my privileged position to speak for minorities... like Wikipedia"

I nearly burst out laughing when he blamed his ADHD. His ADHD??? You mean, the thing almost all popular creators have???? The nuerodivergence that practically holds up the entire video essay genre??? (I say this as a creator with ADHD, btw, I know all the issues that come with it, but COME ON, MAN.)

I also have memory issues! And (like James) epilepsy! Memory problems aren't taken seriously but I'll say that if you're working on a script/essay there's really easy ways to avoid plagiarism. There's beta readers, websites that scan for it, keeping track of your links or just reading it through yourself.
I'm in university and yes my memory effs me over with essay work but I get SUPPORT and ask for HELP.
Edit: just check the replies to this for loads of ways he (or you) could support good work. Thanks everyone who has contributed their techniques!

Him STILL saying he "tried to be a voice of the queer community" is also kind of a backhanded attempt at grovelling, since he was extremely exclusionary and hateful towards asexual and aromantic people and as far as I'm aware has NOT walked that back, essentially cosigning his past self's othering

There’s a line from an old fantasy book that I really love that stuck with me: “We judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions”.  I might be butchering it but that was the sentiment.  It’s useful to remember when you find yourself rationalizing something crappy you’ve done.

To provide more context, what Somerton didn't plagiarize, he just made up by "ruminating on it" and considered that fact.
This was brought to light when a mild mannered musical review channel got so offended at how consistently wrong Somerton was and spent an hour and a half fact checking the videos in a video that is in my opinion even better than Hbomberguy's.

Damn why did nobody tell me that being recently diagnosed ADHD was a pass to be the worst I could’ve been WAY more chaotic

No matter who the irs sends, I'm paying the fucking taxes.
They got Al Capone, they can sure as hell get me.

god, i forgot he was trying to say he plagiarized bc of a head injury 😭😭😭 what a wild thing to insinuate

"I have memory issues from a head injury when I was a child"
Hi James, I also have memory issues from when I injured my head eight years ago and I still manage to write original videos

Of note here, it seems like Somerton wanted in on Nebula and they kept rejecting him.  When he wouldn’t take no for an answer, it seems like Hbomb was tasked with explaining why they didn’t want anything to do with him.

Highly recommend Todd in the Shadows' video on Somerton as an addendum. It has things like the scholarly co-writer admitting that while he didn't seem to plagiarize himself, he was aware that when Somerton was saying things like "Americans were jealous of ultra buff supersoldier nazis" it was because James just made that up, based on his own assumptions... which is...................... very odd?????
