This £1bn warship can shoot down anything that flies | War On Tape | Daily Mail

Britain’s Type 45 may well be the most advanced destroyer afloat today. This £1bn warship is an anti-air specialist, capable of simultaneously tracking 1,000 objects no bigger than a cricket ball travelling up to three times the speed of sound, and then taking them down at ranges in excess of 95 miles. The way it does this is through a combination of powerful radar and state-of-the-art missiles. War on Tape got the chance to go aboard while she was in the Indo-Pacific to find out exactly how she does it.

Magnificent ship indeed. But UK needs to pump the hull numbers of these type of ships.

We just need 12 to 15 more of them. Thanks for sharing.

I passed my AIB a couple of days ago and I'm off to BRNC next year with any luck. I've dreamed of serving on a Type 45 for years and hopefully will soon.

Fantastic bit of kit. When Dragonfire laser weapon added, this will give a cost effective system to kill cheap drones

Getting her rating wrong, and then calling her a “lootenant”. What great journalism.

Also. Wow the bigger missile has more fuel which means it can go further? Groundbreaking scoop there.

People dont realise what it takes to build ships like this, let alone to maintain them. Huge amount of work

In the British forces, the rank is pronounced LEFtenant, not LOOtenant which is American

She’s a leading hand or Leading engineering tech not an officer 😂

I love it when people say stupid things, like “this one is bigger and this one is smaller” 😂

@H.P206 2 months ago

Very nice ships. Currently going through engine upgrades, 3 done, 2 in progress and 1 when she's done serving.

Missiles are also being upgraded taking it from 48 to 72 missiles (moving to a configuration of x48 of the bigger aster 30 missiles, upgraded block 1 version, and 24 close in sea ceptor missiles). They should also be getting the x8 deck mounted naval strike missile, so technically that's 80 missiles total which is alot better than the 48 it started with.

And then there getting the new energy weapons aswell and a radar upgrade I believe
