How bad are rifles without any rifling? Let's try to find out by using 5 different loads at different velocities. Thanks for watching!

Thank you to all of the companies that helped supply products for testing. All other products were personally sourced.

Less friction from no rifling also contributes to higher velocity and lower SD

Try using nail gun blanks and 22 caliber pellets in it. Pellets are a diablo shape. With a high FOC and the hollow base, and the flared out base, they resemble a mini shotgun slug meant for a smooth bore. Should shoot pretty well.

Don't let bananas drive you ballistics!

I am here to find out if we have been lied to by big rifling

If you have rats the size of a ballistic gel block you will need a bigger gun.

Minute of rat really got me.

Try airgun pellets with blanks!

@nathanguyon7620 5 hours ago

Ah, Henry. Save on not cutting rifling, charge more! Genius!

The test would be pattern rat shot from the garden gun, then pattern it from a rifle. That is what it was made for.

A rifle without rifling isn't a rifle, same as a fly with no wings isn't a fly, it's a walk.

Over here in Britain, in the 19th century, shotgun makers could offer their customers a “Paradox” gun, in which the barrel was smoothbore until the last few inches, which were rifled. It worked very well. In WWII the Germans applied the same principle to their anti-tank cannons, only the last few centimeters of the barrel were rifled.

Lot of effort put into these kind of videos, thank you

Yellow Jackets might stabilize

@angryroostercreations5194 3 hours ago

Bore drag from the rifling cutting the bullet is what's causing the differences in velocity. It's the same reason that there is a diminishing return to barrel length, or you can even reach a point where velocity will begin to drop of if the barrel gets too long.

It may say '22 LR Shotshells' only for legal reasons for when it's sold in counties with stricter firearms laws as different rules might exist for rifles vs shotguns.

"When" you ask? Clearly Toilet Guy is unaware of the legendary Mark 14.

The first US made garden shotgun in about 20 years

That “viper” ammo used to be called “yellow jackets” back in the day. Unless they’re completely different but the shape was the same and they boasted wildly high speeds for .22LR
