In this video, I'll discuss a specific aspect of the Nationality Law, Law No. 37/81, which in Article 6, No. 8, defines the right to obtain Portuguese citizenship through Portuguese descendants, that is, your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

There are 5 requirements that the Nationality Law applies to grant Portuguese citizenship to those who have Portuguese children.

1 - The applicant's child must be of legal age;

2 - The applicant must prove proficiency in the Portuguese language;

3 - The applicant must have no criminal record;

4 - The applicant must have resided legally or illegally in Portugal for at least 5 uninterrupted years;

5 - It is necessary that their child be of Portuguese origin and have acquired Portuguese nationality by attribution.

There are several specific issues that must be considered when dealing with the process of obtaining Brazilian citizenship; each case is unique. Therefore, the correct course of action is always to consult a lawyer registered with the Brazilian Bar Association.
