Thank you for this one. Blowup remains one of my Top 10 films of all time. In the early 2000s I worked with an actor who grew up with David. They had made a pact that whoever 'made it' first would help the other. David, a true gentleman, kept his word. My colleague was on set when David died. I was among the first to hear of his passing. I phoned my colleague to break the news to him, so he would hear it from a friend who admired David, rather than an impersonal source. God bless David's memory.

Am I the only one who thinks David Hemmings never got the recognition he truly deserved?

It is an often forgotten and overlooked piece of cinematic genius, but for me David Hemmings greatest and most powerful performance was as the 'damned schoolmaster' in the very under-rated Unman, Wittering and Zigo. One of the most atmospheric, haunting and threatening films made in the 1970's Britain.

Met David and Jenny Agutter on the film Survivor where I played the part of a police officer attempting to rescue the person played by Jenny Agutter. The funny thing is I was a real police officer and a number of other police officers took parts as well.

I met Mr Hemmings in his later life. I live close to Guildford and he appeared in my local pub a few times over the course of a week or two shortly after Gladiator came out as I recall. Quite a gregarious but very interesting chap, I was sorry to learn of his passing a few years later.

An excellent documentary explaining in part the complexities of a complex man who navigated and survived the sixties and the harsh universe of ephemeral beauty, glamour and stardom. I really appreciated the documentary and it helped me appreciate David Hemmings even more. RIP sir.

'I wasn't dead. I was just directing "The A Team".' Well, at least he had a sense of humor! 😃

They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.”

Terrance Stamp was very much in the same physical mould and when David H’s acting career went rather quiet, Stamp filled the void very comfortably. Both were typical examples of the fashionable 60’s set that became known as ‘ The Beautiful People’.

Loved him in Camelot, Blow Up, Gladiator and Barbarella.

Excuse me for growing up. I never knew about the adolescent obsessions he was saddled with. The first I knew was Blow-up. And there was so much noise about Vanessa Redgrave's top less picture. Another pretty 60s guy, that's what I remember the most...luckily the man survived it. Cheers ❤

The Long Days Dying is an unforgettable film. Hemmings played the main character as I remember. Well worth a view.

The first time I saw David Hemmings was when he played Modred in Camelot. He was stunning!

Great episode. I saw David in the movie Blow Up and wow is all I can say.

I didn’t realize what happened to him in his childhood.

Sometimes the best actors/actresses seemed to be the ones that have the most mental health problems.

How the man recovered from an entanglement with an appauling narcissist like Britten sounds like - no wonder substance issues were a terrible reality....He can be spotted in League of Extraordinary Gentleman, briefly in the African segment, with Connery's character.

Great video. David Hemmings was an interesting one in my life. Being born in 1965, I was too young to see him in first run during the 60s and 70s. But, when I entered college in the mid-80s, I began to connect the face I'd seen in rerun movies with the classic roles I had begun studying in film school. By then, Hemmings had already penetrated popular culturer. (In an episode of the Brady Bunch, young school photographer, Greg Brady saved the day by "blowing up" one of his photos of a controversial sporting event. Also, in the 80s, John Travolta starred in a very bad remake of Blow Up called Blow Out.) I grew to appreciate him in the following years. In the 90s, I began to watch his decline, in the little guest star roles on TVs. Most memorable was from Northern Exposure, when he plays a drunken, broke, disheveled ex-CIA agent who hitchhikes his way from Russia to Cicely. When he gets there, he makes the odd buck and gets the odd free drink by digging into his briefcase and pulling out amusing Cold War files and selling them to the locals. Really funny.

Memorable scene in Blow Up: Teaching Vanessa to smoke to the music.

Great Documentary, Thank You! David Hemmings has always been in the back ground of my generation, I never knew any of this information about his life , for the most part . I'll never forget Blow-up which strangely had a powerful effect on me, since I became a Fashion and Hair and Makeup Stylist in Fashion Photography and film for 20 years .

I grew up in the 60's in the US. I never knew the man but after the review of his work, I knew him intimately. Thank you for connecting the dots. Now I will go watch Blow-up, as I was too young to see it when it opened!
