This is a video on the Soviet Mars mission. It was the brain child of Friedrich Tsander, but it was picked up my his colleague, Korolev.

"Forward, comrades, and only forward! Raise the rockets higher and higher, closer to the stars"
I have no russian / soviet heritage, but that hit hard, for some reasons I can't quite understand

I have now watched so many Space in General and Space History channels, like Scott Manly. But this is the first time I have heard about this.

This might just be the greatest space history video on YouTube, absolutely amazing editing and visuals. The story telling was phenomenal!

Imagine any future Mars mission finding 50+ yr old bodies of the Soviet astronauts. It would break their minds.

Honestly that voice crack around 4:18 adds a little passion and sincerity to a deeply human and emotional subject so I’ll let it be

I wonder if they knew exactly how unfeasible it would've been to go to mars back then. Even now I don't see us going for another 20 years at least.

One day I'm going to get to Russia, and finally pay my respects to the men who dreamed this big.
