I knew a Chinese-American guy once who had a good job, but like zero life skills. He ate nothing but cup ramen, stole my husband’s air mattress and chairs to avoid buying furniture, and basically let mold grow on a pile of Tupperware and wet towels in his room. It was weird. And then he moved into a studio apartment with his cousin, who was the same way. When my husband asked if this arrangement might put a damper on their love lives, they said flat out “Oh, when we’re ready we’ll just go get wives in China. We have money so we’ll definitely find girls to marry. And then they can figure out food and laundry for us. I’ll never have to worry about it that stuff- that’s her job.” Like they were going to go to Wife Walmart and get one off the shelf. Not an uncommon attitude anywhere in the world, but I wonder if that worked out for them. I can only guess they ended up competing with similar men who were more functional adults. Who wants to marry a guy who, left to his own devices, lives like a giant hamster?

The guy not pursuing the first girl who he really liked is the bigger problem. Deciding that "you don't deserve her" sounds humble, but it is actually very presumptuous. Why don't you let her decide what she deserves, you might find that you bring more to the table than you think. I am average looking, and middle class. My wife tells me that I make her feel seen and heard in ways previous partners did not.

I think social media makes us believe that there are so many of those 1-10% of hot/cool/rich/stylish people out there, but then you go outside and realize everyone looks pretty normal. I have seen less than 10 people who look like idols, they were jaw droppingly beautiful. I think the only exception is college town events, but even still everyone is trying to look their best, & still look like normal people

as a fellow asian living in asia, the dating market is simply just cooked, it;s pretty much well-done, properly roasted, marinated for 12 hours, i literally have a big ass friend group and only 2 are in relationship (out of like  more than a dozen) and more than half have 0 prior dating experience. More note: almost all that are single dont really mind being single, so there's that too. oh this is universal for both my male and female friends btw lmao.
