l have just seen this Movie for the second time in 2 days ....i loved it even more the second time,.,,,,,My Movie of the year so far...A movie the World needs now:face-red-heart-shape::face-red-heart-shape::face-red-heart-shape::face-red-heart-shape::face-red-heart-shape::face-red-heart-shape::face-red-heart-shape:

I saw it today without knowing anything about it except it was a John Carney film set in Dublin with Paul Rudd. Watching it I realized that it mirrors the controversey around the Robbie Williams hit Angels.
From memory the story goes that Williams, after leaving Take That, was hanging out in Dublin on a drinking bender before starting out his post boyband career. He met an Irish songwriter who had previously had modest sucess in Ireland and Europe, but not the UK.
They went back to the Irish guys house or studio where he introduces Williams to a song he was writing about his daughter who he had lost, hence an angel, and they recorded a demo version.
Williams "took that" demo and gave it to the producer working on his upcoming solo album and they recorded it. The Irish guy was paid a modest sum but Williams took all the song writing credit.

Watched this film this afternoon and it was awesome!

Loved it. Very charming movie. Like Sing Street, deserves a much bigger audience than it will get. Shot beautifully.

One of the most enjoyable movies i have seen in years. nice to leave the cineam pleasantly surprised.

Robbie Williams should acknowledge Ray Heffernan’s co writing of Angels. No skin off his nose. They met in rehab in Ireland.

agree, i thought it was great, i was the only one in the theatre for it at an advanced screening and from what i am seeing it's not really getting the attention it deserves yet so i hope that word of mouth about it picks up cause it is a great crowd pleaser, i think people see paul rudd and a jonas brother and assume the type of movie they are in for, but this one is really good for an older crowd and i hope they find it, already recommended it to mum

Power Ballad is one of my most anticipated films this summer as I think Carney's "Once" an absolutely perfect film.  What Mark has hinted at involving a busker cameo has got me excited beyond belief.

Oooh, sounds like it’s based on 1996 Robbie Williams/Ray Heffernan incident where Heffernan (who is Irish, btw) claims that he co-wrote ‘An Angel Instead’ with Williams at Heffernan’s mum’s place but then Williams released it and claimed it as solely his own work.

Saw thus film this afternoon and it is awesome!

I'm really looking forward to seeing this. Once is one of my favourite films (and the stage version is just wonderful as well), so it sounds right up my street.

Isnt thos how robbie Williams Angels was written

That supermarket was gigantic

Was this inspired by the Robbie Williams / Ray Heffernan controversy over authorship of the the song Angels?

Watched it today, surprised that it was better than I thought, even if not as good as Carney's other films. Paul Rudd could be a greedy monster in this one, but his story is a matter of the need pride and respect. It takes him quite a while that as a middle aged working musician, he's got more than most, and his style of charm makes it compelling to watch.

It is funny that this is a solid movie but the marketers thought it a good idea to release a bunch of free tickets.

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this film. Paul Rudd is always good. The dubbing of the singing is really poor. That was my only complaint

Sounds like the plot of Coco?

The bride & groove 😂

“I’ve not been a huge Paul Rudd fan in the past” He’s my favorite actor

Watched this in the cinema today. Had the feel of a bland straight to Netflix movie. I'll just wait to watch Carney's movies on streaming in future.
