so here we are at 3 million views after the ANDOR series finale, which is insane 😂 i really can’t believe it. i’ve left other comments explaining some things about this video, but i guess i’ll just keep updating as we hit different milestones.

• i put this together on a whim way back in 2019. i wanted to use the deleted scenes to build, like, a little short film to stick between R1 and ANH.

• obviously there’s a continuity challenge, because the scenes aren’t designed to be in this order and i didn’t want to break the flow or hop around. so i just redefined the backwards scenes - now a bored luke is always looking at the sky. he’s always looking for adventure, and probably isn’t seeing what he’s seeing - until he does. it solved my narrative problem! i didn’t know that hundreds of people would be mad at me about it, like, YES! i have ALWAYS KNOWN that they’re supposed to go the other way around 😂

• “why was the millennium falcon in there?” because i made the shot long before i made the edit! i had trouble with that first transition and just kinda thought to pop it in there. plus, like, we know han and chewie showed up at some point. now we’re seeing it. again - did NOT know that ANYONE was going to care about this, but i still wanted to make good decisions. i like the falcon there, all the pieces that make up ANH are falling into place.

• the two VFX shots (millennium falcon, the sky view of the battle) are shots i made myself in blender and after effects.

• i don’t work for lucasfilm, but i do work in media as an editor and very small-time producer. i’m just a guy who made this for fun. i didn’t even put it on YT for a couple years after i made it. i couldn’t have imagined the impact it would have on here. if anyone is from lucasfilm, like i just wanna talk (please hire me 😂)

This deleted scene actually gives Luke a more realistic motivation to help out the rebellion, other than saving a princess

The actor for Biggs really got shafted. He didn't even make it into the special editions but his exposition here is pretty damn good.

It's crazy to know that Cassian dies literally a few hours before the opening scene of a New Hope

These deleted scenes add so much value to Luke's character and make him so much more sympathetic.

It sucks that casually wearing a cape like Biggs hasn't become a societal norm...

IMAGINE getting a part in BIGGEST film of all time... then having it cut out.

There’s something SO much more sinister, mysterious and cool about seeing the Star Destroyer just pop into existence from hyperspace from the POV of someone on the ground. Ships are always filmed so close in star wars media; I feel like directors (or producers) never have the gall to back things up a bit and not show their fancy ships in super-detail, but it hits so much harder like this

I always loved that scene with Luke and Biggs it gives them so much more backstory and a connection and the loss of Biggs hurts more

how does this scene alone feel more Andor and Rogue One than the rest of the original trilogy? The casualness in speech, the small scale story, the world building... feels ahead of its time.

The silent appearance of the two ships from hyperspace is honestly such an understated but cool shot, wish they'd recycle it somehow

This needs to be included in a special edition cut of the movie. This gives a WHOLE deeper meaning when Luke goes from saying “you kiddin? What would the empire want with this rock?” To seeing the smoked carcasses of his aunt and uncle, by the hands of the empire.

“Listen how quiet I am, you can barely hear me” That line and line delivery is both so good and so funny to me for some reason

I love how cinematography back then was so stage like, always keeping the actors in profile and not cutting back and forth. Just letting the audience choose who to watch.

The idea of ground-level observation of battle above the planet is so very cool. I've never seen that in any SW production. Seeing just a blip-of-an-incident high above, while huge and terrifying to the individuals up there (what we always see). Very cool.

I appreciate how the Obi-Wan series kinda unintentionally added context to “Your uncle could hold off a whole colony of sand people with one blaster,” him and Beru took on a friggin Inquisitor

The father chasing and finally catching his daughter, while his son watches them from the ground. All happening above and on the planet that his mother/their grandmother died with all of them completely unaware. What a wonderful space opera this is.

These deleted scenes are canon and nobody can convince me otherwise
