Guys, I was just in Madeira and if I remember correctly at the start of the Levada walk that you took it literally says not to feed the birds. It's a good practice to not feed the birds in most places because people don't have a good understanding of what different birds eat, how large the pieces, etc.

As a Madeiran, I strongly urge tourists not to feed the birds, especially Madeiran chaffinch, as they are becoming quite ill: they are contracting a bacteria that causes poor mobility, making them easy prey for predators; it causes blindness and warts on their feet and wings.
Tourists are feeding the finches food that is not part of their diet, and therefore the birds are ingesting food for which their metabolism is not prepared.
Furthermore, when you buy seeds in a store to feed these animals, you are introducing seeds that are not part of the laurel forest.
The laurel forest was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999 and is a natural treasure, so its fauna and flora must be preserved.

I went to Madeira last year, and I really enjoyed your video - the right sort of level of detail. When I went to the Fanal forest the sky was a perfect blue, which was kind of disappointing, hehe. The one thing that I loved which you missed was the Monte Palace gardens, at the top of the cable car (you slid past them). One of the most beautiful gardens you could ever see.

I appreciate how you share all the details, good and bad! I was pretty frustrated with the parking and the roads when I visited, but the hikes and views are pretty spectacular!

I spent a few weeks in Maderia. Absolutely stunning 😍 However, finding affordable Pet Friendly Accommodation was challenging! Funchal very busy crowded at times ❤
