Welcome to another episode of PTE histories. In this one we head off to the Midlands to look at West Midlands PTE.
They ran buses in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry, West Bromwich and Walsall. Well known for supporting local businesses with Daimler Fleetlines and later, MCW Metrobuses. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane. Please note this is only a brief history into the company and there may be things missing or bits I've left out. Great video Jake I was born in Wolverhampton and in 1962 became a conductor on the 10/80 route and partnered my dad to become the first father and son team on Wolverhampton Transport. Later when I turned 21 I also became a bus driver for Wolverhampton. Later on I joined Midland Red as a driver until they closed the Wolverhampton depot Great memories

Well done Jake a brilliant video and WMPTE is my home fleet as i have lived in brierley hill then halesowen my whole life
Miss seeing the blue and cream livery and WMPTE fleetlines have always been my favourite and the reverse livery on dual purpose nationals
Always enjoyed being invited as a school kid to look round the now gone hartshill garage and seeing the fleetlines and nationals and some interesting talks on engine and accident repairs
I also loved the metrobus and many fond memories of riding on them. We never had ailsa or vr in our area but we had loads of nationals and never forget their sound on all the hills around Dudley area- you could hear them coming so you managed to get to the stop in time!
It was great having trains integrated and i know what goes around and after deregulation it looks like its coming back!
Jake it would be great to hear of some of the deregulation companies like metrowest merry hill minibuses etc

My late Dad worked at Walsall garage Stafford Street.
Great memories.
I remember the footbsll specials lined up 30 deep outside the ALBION.
Our scool bus was a 338 school special.
Great memories.

Fond memories of exploring the midlands on my teens on metro buses. Where the drivers didn't brake until they'd entered the bus stop 😂

Despite the existence of NXWM for many years - 'West Midlands Travel' today as the main business group name has been retained - so it hasn't completely disappeared.

Great video. I drove for them starting 87'. Bit you missed was the introduction of minibuses. Thats where I started, Transit breadvans and then Metroriders( quick but well dodgy steering). Ended up doing 35 years

Great video, Jake! I'd love to see a video on the 36 foot Walsall bus! I don't remember ever seeing a Foden NC bus on the streets of the West Midlands but I've ridden plenty of times on the Volvo Ailsas which I thought were very noisy! Loved the Metro buses and the old Birmingham Standards.
