Hitman is a stealth video game franchise created and primarily developed by the Danish studio IO Interactive. The series follows Agent 47, a genetically engineered clone and professional contract killer who travels around the world to assassinate various targets assigned to him by the International Contract Agency (ICA). The franchise combines stealth gameplay with open-ended level design, allowing players to approach their targets in a variety of ways using disguises, weapons, environmental hazards, and other methods. The first game, Hitman: Codename 47, was released in 2000 and introduced many of the gameplay elements that would become staples of the series.
