Dammit. I keep coming back. Coming back to use the Bathroom.

Another day, another trip to The Bathroom.

"Columbia : From What I heard even the butterflies are corrupt and smuggling drugs" - Agent 47 being real.

The Dutch bartender was played by David Bateson himself by the way.

there is a graphic novel prequel to this game called Agent 47: Birth of the Hitman.

You think the lee hong assassination is worse than plutonium runs loose?huh never have I ever thought anyone would say that

I really enjoyed this review. Im a hitman superfan and even i learned something. I liked how you genuinely got into the game and didnt just use it for easy dunks like most reviewers. Hitman is unique as it’s one of the few franchises which keeps the DNA of its original entry while being a pretty clear evolution on each entry. It only gets better from here

That thing you said about changing assets even applies within the same game. Hitman 3 got rebranded and became a collection of the latest trilogy of games and you can see on Hitman 1 levels there will be screenshots from the Hitman 1 versions of those levels even tho in Hitman 3 those models and lighting will be changed in actual gameplay. 47 has like four or five different models in the various cutscenes from not only different games but they would usually switch cutscene depending on the level of each game because of budget

I also think 47’s design is very appealing. The suit with the red tie and gloves adds a bit of danger, but I think him wearing an open jacket was genius because the fashion and weather of each location gets to show off the tech. His jacket and tie will blow in the wind in Japan or it’ll just be a calm breeze in the Middle East, not to mention all the different disguises. Dragging bodies not only became a good excuse to show off the tech but it adds tension when the guy gets caught on something. There’s even a weapon - the Striker- in the new games whose gimmick it is to create OTT ragdolls

I think Hitman is a sandbox stealth game with an assassination focus is the closest I can describe it. The devs themselves always cite Hitman as a puzzle game even nowadays, but I feel the series while it always has its puzzle elements the main focus I think is always on NPC movement patterns. Tho first game has one solution per level pretty much and isn’t very sandboxy, every game afterwards ups the options each time aside from maybe Absolution (which even then that game does have some replayability options, so it’s not entirely linear)

The example you cite of Lee Hong being very difficult to figure out gets eliminated as soon as Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, where a scripted kill like that becomes merely one of several ways to take out a target. Then by the modern games something scripted like that becomes an almost point and click style setpiece where you can turn on or off a guide which will hand you an interesting story beat. I’d recommend playing the series in order now, H2SA has some growing pains still but it starts to mold the franchise into this imperfect but very well made clay pot. Just make sure to limit your FPS. Contracts and Blood Money are when the series gets GOOD, with the former having remakes of some of this first game’s levels

I also want to say on music I think it only gets better on Kyd’s end, the guy who does the latest trilogy also does a fine output tho not as stellar, but I absolutely adore that jungle track. The tribal drums seem sort of light hearted and out of genre, but then it kicks into that triumphant piece where it feels like the rain to the beginning’s forest feel and to me it feels like it’s trying to imply something greater spiritually is going on there. Like that the superstitions of the tribes isn’t all that superstitious. H2SA goes for a full on orchestra that feels like a big budget spy movie, so maybe that was foreshadowing 47’s direction into being more of a goodie

I also think you’ll be happy to know that the newest trilogy outright turns that awkwardness into a trait played for humor. 47 in the new games is completely socially inept and the joke is that nobody notices this or at least isnt suspicious enough to realize he’s a murderer. In fact 47 starts to realize it about himself later in the trilogy and starts making obvious murder puns like “it’s to die for”

There really is nothing like Hitman imo and I always shill it hard for people to play as much as they can

Being the first ever game in the series, it was my very first ever game in the series when I got it back in 2001 via one of my mom's friends who brought it over. And the copy I ended up getting from the very friend my mom had, was a warez release, courtesy of the never-to-be-forgotten cracking group known none other than Class. I can always remember the way the installer for that particular warez release looked, as it looked like a regular software installer, rather than a simple unpacker that most installers, especially those of other cracking groups, were for the most part. It was even that same installer used for some of Class' other warez releases that I had at the same time, like Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Delta Force: Land Warrior. Seeing the game start off in Hong Kong after the tutorial level in the mental institution where the game begins, was quite a big highlight for me. I mean, who would have thought that the city in where the first set of actual missions would take place, would go on to be the very birthplace of this one insanely-classic Match-3 Puzzle Game from 2018 on Steam that is none other than Mirror of all games! What a time to be alive! And although I wasn't really fond of the fact that just goin' guns blazing would not only get you killed, but the target person you are tasked to assassinate, would easly go away, which is why I had a bit of a destain for the series for quite some time, in recent times as I've been revisiting the first game, the series has began to grow well on me.

With Hitman and a new James Bond series IO have two of the best IPs around right now. They do a lot of post release work, so they deserve the success. Very neat so see how far they’ve come

I see you're getting rather comfortable with the longer-form video format. There is something charming about sampler-sized reviews, but I appreciate the detailed dives into the more obscure (or obscured) titles out there. Great work! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to use the bathroom.

Great video! I appreciate how you actually pointed out the positive things about this game and didn't just crap on it like most reviewers do. I started out in the Hitman franchise with Absolution, and didn't get around playing Codename 47 until 2024, but while struggling through the levels it kind of grew on me. It has a janky sort of charm.

I need to use the bathroom.

u deserve way more views. Excellent video

Great dive into the first Hitman game, I’m really excited to see your thoughts on the rest of the series!

18:32 The voice actor for the bartender is also David Bateson.  He did a few of the side characters and some incidental voices for the first game and joked in a panel years ago that he was inexperienced and should have been upset he only got paid for one part.  They kept using him because he spoke both Danish and English fluently enough to take direction.

Great review ! I enjoyed a lot watching it through my breaks

That background section to why they ended up making a Hitman game instead of a Max Payne style shooter was really fascinating. I never knew all that despite being a fairly big fan of the franchise growing up.
I also need to use the bathroom

Great review! I'm surprised that you liked Say hello to my little friend more than the Lee Hong's assassination. Poisoning his bodyguard is something that I discovered much later, it’s actually possible to just eliminate Lee Hong in the restaurant before he runs away. That Colombian military base with the boss fight was pure hell though, took me like 20 attempts, most frustrating part is running around the base after every failed attempt. I actually had no idea that Agent 47 had those funny expressions. Awesome video!

nice video, ngl
gives me that 2015 vibes

This was so good, interesting and entertaining. Keep up the good work and you'll make it big, I really hope to see a follow-up video of the same length for Hitman 2 Silent Assassin as it is my favorite in the series.
