Grandpa isn’t Westley. Remember what they said at the beginning. When he said “As you wish,” what he was really saying was “I love you”

The book Princess Bride has EVERYTHING the movie has, and then ANYTHING you can imagine! Always read the author's notes and the footnotes, they're HILARIOUS!

I read the book. I think it’s a rare case of the book and movie being equals in every way. The humor, the trope awareness, the action: all perfect.

I used to use the "life is pain, princess" line everytime my daughter started complaining about something being "unfair."

Grampa is not Westley. Those words symbolize true love. Like a Grandpa to a grand child.

Most people saw this movie on VHS from Blockbuster, or another store. It wasn’t a commercial success. The studio didn’t know how to promote it… was it comedy or adventure or romance or fantasy? The arrival of VHS tapes and video rental stores made it possible for The Princess Bride to become a cult hit.

Cary Elwes (Westley) wrote a great book about making this movie called “As You Wish.” It has stories about Andre the Giant, the cast, making the sword fight (he and Mandy Patinkin studied sword fighting for months with a legendary master). Elwes reads the audiobook and it’s fun to listen to. Some of the cast lend their voices too.

32:29 apparently Billy Crystal was told "forget the script, just go for it" and the entire cast/crew had to leave the scene to get a cut with no laughter.

It's subtle, but one of the (many) great lines in this movie is "Have you ever considered piracy? You'd make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts."

The ship that the Dread Pirate Roberts sails is named "Revenge"

At the top of the Cliffs of Insanity, before Westley and Inigo fight, Inigo says: "I only work for Vizzini to pay the bills. There's not a lot of money in revenge."

Brilliant. And it's a drop in a bucket for what this movie delivers.

Check out some of the behind-the-scenes stuff; it's pretty incredible. Like how André ripped a 30-second fart in the middle of one take, how both Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin constantly practiced fencing between takes (with their dominant and non-dominant hands!) in order to get good enough to be believable, how Cary bruised a rib trying not to laugh from Billy Crystal's ad-libbing, how André his whole life felt isolated because of his size but on the movie set everyone loved him and treated him like a normal person, the list goes on.
