A large-scale eruption occurred at Sakurajima from June 6th to 8th, 2026.
While swelling of the mountain had been observed since around May, I conducted my first drone aerial photography of the year, capturing the latest conditions at the Minamidake and Showa craters.
Upon reviewing the footage, I found that the shape of the craters and the surrounding topography had changed significantly since last year's filming, giving me a renewed sense of the scale of the eruption.
This video features:
Panoramic view of Sakurajima
Latest footage of the Minamidake crater
Conditions at the Showa crater
Comparison with last year
Topographical changes due to the eruption
Please watch until the end if you are interested in disaster prevention or volcanic activity.
*Safety is the top priority, and filming was conducted in compliance with relevant laws and flight rules.
