not… I repeat, it’s NOT a singing competition. It’s a song contest.

When you react to something foreign to you, it's usually respectful to not call them "Temu" or "Wish" versions of american things. People from the US are so US-centric, so self important it's crazy. These songs are actually popular across Europe and it can be unique to Europe, does not have to be compared to a worse version of an american thing. Americans are so quick to show their ignorance and complete disrespect of other's cultures. It is not for you.

GENTLEMEN, LET US GET SOMETHING STRAIGHT.. IT IS A ***song*** CONTEST, NOT A VOCAL/SINGING CONTEST.  Yes, the quality of the performer(s) and the quality/scale of the staging make a big difference, but it is about the song itself.. That's why the writers get a  significant amount of the praise etc.  Now, to sell your song you need brilliant vocals and these days, crazy staging.  That last part helps mostly with the unwashed masses and the televoting.   The Juries are supposedly focused on the song itself a bit more.

Because the rules focus on the SONG< this is why it is possible that foreign writers and performers can be involved, since it is simply the particular national broadcaster putting forth a song.  Winning performers get the trophy, and whatever benefits to their careers, but the prestige of winning for the broadcaster rapidly morphs into the nightmare realization:  WHAT THE F*** HAVE WE DONE??? Now e have ot do all the work ourselves!!!  😱😳🤯😭

Even at the beginning here, it still is pop music ... Pop just means popular music which is music that is bought by the majority of people.

I was there in KYIV in 2005. My mom sang for Andorra. I was just 9 years old but i remember a lot of it. It was a great experience.

Regarding new covers of old winners: It has become tradition that sometime during the final, the hosting country presents a cover of last years winner.

Ruslana a discount Shakira? Bro, seriously?

Stefania is a banger. Hope she is still alive and well.. also the Kalush boys. The lyrics were better than the UK one. Love Sam too.

Luxembourg is back in the contest this year! So exciting!

12:45  That's your opinion, not facts. Be respectful to other countries please, don't say something is garbage just becuse you don't like it. In this specific instance you are saying the culture and traditional music of Spain is garbage, so please next time messure your words, thanks.

A little back story for you… ESC was started as a way off connecting the continent of Europe. After WW2 it was needed to have some lighthearted connection, and that was done trough Music. Although not many countries did start that first year, it was its start!!

It’s also NOT a singing contest, it’s a song contest! It’s not like American idol or the voice (both European concepts by the way!) the points are giving to the whole song, the music, the staging, the singing and just the overal performance. Not only their voice lol

And yes, it’s the Super Bowl of Music. This is literally the second most watched tv event worldwide, the Super Bowl is the only thing that gains more viewers

By the way, the ESC is not a "singing competition", it's a song competition. Its more about songwriting.

When someone says "what is Eurovision?" Play them "Give that wolf a banana" by Subwoolfer. If someone doesn't appreciate the genius / insanity of that song - they will never understand Eurovision.

Your euphoria dance is one of the best things I've seen in a while 😂

Johnny Logan is still very much active, he even participated in the Masked Singer in Belgium.

Cha Cha Cha was not just cheese...

About the Rick Roll and Sandra Kim’s moves, everybody danced like that in the 80’s (I was 10 in 1986) 😅

1985 was a great year for Norwegian pop music. Not only did we win Eurovision, we also got a Norwegian artist at the top of the charts in America and many other countries with the legendary "Take on me" by a-ha. The 80's were amazing!

1976 (Brotherhood of Man) Save your kisses for me was written to a small child:
"Don't cry, honey, don't cry
Won't you save them for me even though you're only three"
That's why the song sounds like that. Happy and cheerful.

The reason why Luxemburg was so popular in the 1960s and 1970s is because of the way the contest is organized. See, it's technically not a competition between countries, but between national broadcasters (BBC for the UK, ARD for Germany, TVE for Spain, etc.). And so, RTL for Luxemburg. The thing is, because Luxemburg is so tiny a country, it broadcasts its programmes for neighboring countries and markets: a French-language radio station for France and Belgium, a Dutch one for Belgium and the Netherlands, a German one for Germany, etc. So the bosses at RTL would play their song over and over again until the national juries, through the mere exposure effect, came to like it 😂
