Only Andrew could fly across the world to a middle eastern country at war and argue about drill rap with a local

Andrew trying his hardest to enter both the CIA and IRGC blacklists

Love how vice approves of channel 5 being the new vice

The piano part you were hearing is the theme song from the 1970 movie "Love Story" called "Where do I begin?" which just so happens to have been used by Immortal Technique in his song "Dance with the devil"

Protect the poet. Dude snuck out a message right under their noses

Adding language options is such a baller move man. Channel 5 keeps delivering what the people want to hear

Never thought I would get a Durk and Von summary in an Iran video 😭

“The new Vice” is a massive compliment. When a lot of people think of Vice, they think of their weird social media articles while forgetting that they did some of the hardest hitting journalism. E.g. sneaking cameras into North Korea, coverage of live war zones, embedding with drug cartels, etc.

32:08 Andrew you already met one of the 88 (or whatever precentage they may be) precent! Didn't you understand what this guy wrote???
This is my translation of what he ment to say. Might not be a 100% accurate but I don't think it's that far off:
„Welcome to the land of beautiful shop windows.
Behind them we are all on a special diet.”
Things might look good on the outside, but they are not.
„Learning patience.”
The Farsi word „shakibayi” can mean patience but can also mean something like „to endure” or "to persevere".
„The weather was very stormy not long ago, but now it is quiet.”
The government cracked down hard but it’s more chill now.
„The kind of quiet that has ears.”
But they are still under intense surveillance.
„Some of us have umbrellas. Most don’t.”
Some of us are protected by political or other such connections, most aren’t.
(there is a phrase Chatr-e Hemayat, umbrella of protection referring to this)
„We were recently invited to a mandatory party.”
We are not here by choice.
„The water here flows uphill, so the captain enjoys
the upper deck while we row below.”
We are being exploited while the elites feast.
(Also there is a Farsi phrase „When water flows uphill”
meaning an unnatural, immoral state)
„The walls have Instagram but no voice.”
Don’t believe social media, it’s all propaganda.
„Please tell the world that we are still here,
human, dreaming of ordinary things.”
Please tell the world we are still here,
we didn’t give up our dreams of freedom.

That poem sounded like a real call for help

just gonna put this here The piano melody in Immortal Technique's "Dance with the Devil" is sampled from the "Theme from Love Story" (also known as "(Where Do I Begin?) Love Story"), composed by Francis Lai and famously recorded by Henry Mancini IYKYK

I've been a kid during Yugoslav wars and been in a short interview by American. Thank you for triggering a distant and strange memory of mine, can't wait for the next part.

your ability to tolerate uncertainty is amazing

"Friend Egg"

I like this place.

What an amazing video man. You truly are a guy that gives me hope to fight against propaganda

Yo that poet was getting the word out

Aw quit making me tear up dude. That poem from that random guy, and the lovely garden behind you with that rapper fellow was so special to see. ❤

they wern't playing "dance with the devil by immortal technique" they were playing the first movement of the Sonata No. 3 for Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord in G Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.
