Performing in the Age of Loneliness | Inside by Bo Burnham

The line "Come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health, and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself", had a lasting effect on me. Such a powerful moment.

"I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless and they don’t want anyone else to feel like that."
- Robin Williams

Bo Burnham is the only performer who ever made me feel guilty for being a fan. Which weirdly makes me like him more. It's a vicious cycle.

"The best part is everybody has a voice. The worst part is everybody has a voice." - This is a perfect distillation of the social media dilemma.

That last line is the worst for me.
"I hope you're happy"

I didn't cringe when Bo started being more serious. I felt for him. I was concerned. I wanted him to be okay.

Bo is the only comedian that has ever made me want to cry while I'm laughing.

Bo's sentence "and if you can live your life without an audience, you should do it" changed my whole life.

I feel like Bo is too smart and understands everything to a point where he sees the flaws in everything

I had the privilege of seeing the "Make Happy" tour in 2015. It was made incredibly apparent that Bo just didn't want to do this anymore and that this whole tour was made just to make his fans happy. The tour posters even depicted him as a clown.
I hope he's doing well and I hope he continues to hone his wit. Maybe someday he'll be willing to return to the spot light.

"Look at them they're just starin' at me like come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health. And laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself."

I literally get chills whenever I hear this line

I was a huge fan of Bo for most of his career. I finally got to see him live during the Make Happy tour. I'll never forget when he busted out that last song, and how tense the whole theatre was when he started to talk about his mental health. It truly..shook me. Here I am, a HUGE fan of this person, (I listened to his music and standup all the time, I could recite most recorded things he'd ever said). And I'm seeing him say in plain words that he isn't okay, and that this is killing him. My heart broke. I don't know, I hope that he's okay, and getting better. I think at least, one day, he will find a healthy way to create, and share that part of himself while being TRUE to himself... without feeling so much pressure to be what he thinks we want.

Are you Happy breaks my heart every time I hear it. Bo has given so much, and has done so so unselfishly.

If he never does comedy again, he will still go down as one of the greatest to ever do it, and one of the most thought-provoking people of this generation.

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain.
Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up."
Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor...I am Pagliacci.”

"Can't Handle This" is one of the greatest comedy performances, musical performances, live performances, and art pieces of our generation.

When you come for a laugh but get hit with the existential feels and your whole perspective on life and people changes

"People dont entertain that maybe god does not believe in you"
that line rly hit me

Bo has made me cry, laugh, feel guilty for wanting to meet him

It’s ironic seeing those older comics ask Bo to perform “Art is Dead” without realizing it’s about them
