If you’re new to my channel, my name is Antonio Stappaerts. I’m the founder of artwod.com. I've spent 8 years working as a professional artist in the entertainment industry with companies such as Sony, Ubisoft, Capcom, Tencent, Amazon, Procreate and many more.
I ran a pretty successful design studio called SQETCH Studio (https://sqetch.studio) for 5 years as well but chose to pursue teaching future artist over pleasing corporate clients simply because it gives me more control and I can reach more people.
I'm self taught and discovered a formula to help people learn how to draw better FASTER and with much more fun.

As a self-taught artist, learning to not judge your own sketches too hard is skill we often neglect, thank you for highlighting aspects of drawing related to mindset and maintaining the confidence

Just because of you sir, I'm going back to full up my sketch book 📖

As someone who sketches for an hour a day pretty much every day I make a lot of sketches that no one will ever see that are terrible. I do post a lot of my sketches online but those are only the ones that I deem worthy.

Because of my art block, I wasn't able to draw and my sketchbook was collecting dust for years.

Thankfully I overcame my problem and rekindled my passion for drawing once again. And now my sketchbook is now half full.

one habit I build upon to avoid self judgement and perfectionism in my art is that I tell myself: "It'll get better." once I'm done with a warm up or with the full thing, focusing on improving rather than perfecting the art helps me really well. And most importantly: Have fun! Finding enjoyment in what you're drawing will help you improve immensely!

For me, I draw first on newsprint paper to warm up or on envelopes/amazon boxes that come in the mail. You won’t feel as pressured because it’s paper that is free/cheaper than a sketchbook. The anxiety of a blank paper is still there but there’s no pressure wasting paper at all.

I used to have so many sketchbooks like this. Then i learned about the low bar. I started drawing doodles in my sketchbook and that allowed me to have fun, havinf fun led me to to spending more time on the drawing and that led to me actually practicing more. I try to bring a sketch with me everywhere. And i wither try to task myself with something i want to practice or whatever i feel like drawing in the given moment. If i start getting in my head again i just reminded myself the sketchbook is for warming up, playing around with some ideas. And ive started to finish sketchbooks in less than a year.

And on top of all this? It's just fun to do. Even if you just want art to be a casual pursuit, you will improve either way.

thank you for reminding me to pick my sketchbook up again. i've not touched it for two weeks which is a shame.

If I can share one tip to fill a sketchbook, is this: let your sketchbook open in a visible place, where you can easily reach it. In my case, I let my sketchbook open with a ballpoint pen clipped to it next to my sofa in my living room. So, when me and my wife are watching TV together, I'm sketching whatever comes to my mind.🙂

Thanks a lot ❤ these days am coming back with drawing and focusing in having fun , and your videos helped a lot❤❤, but I really struggle in coming with my ideas i can draw just by copying other artists ,because of it I have fear and frustration with art and I had to stop for 2 years and for the record I am just 15 and art it just hobby , I don't know the solution yet but am trying !
