Wow! What a small world/blast from the past. I never expected to see a car I once owned appear on your channel Jason! I owned this car and bought it from the son of the original owner in Arizona. It was a wonderful time capsule/survivor car. I had to let it go durning Covid. Sold it to a guy in the Bay Area who brought it back to CA.  The original owner had installed a large chrome ball CB whip antenna on the drivers rear quarter, and did a full front to back snap cover (the small holes) like the British roadsters if that area as he left it parked with the top down almost always. You were spot on! I have plenty of pictures with those items still on the car as they were when I sold it. Unfortunately, it looks to have been exposed to the elements quite a bit over the past 5 years as it was more preserved when I owned it. I never changed anything as I just wanted to preserve it as found. Very fun to see and congrats to your customer for finding this gem and getting to be the next caretaker. Good luck with the build!

Keep it original and daily it!

Your customer is very fortunate. Good thing he had a check list. I’m happy for him.

Interesting car. Its always fascinating that these lower end package cars often times had better owners and care than your typically thrashed Z28, SS or what not. Even since the 1970s I remember older people buying these types cars and garaging and servicing them, and the hipo ones got used up, rusted out, crushed up, by younger folks. The unusual part of this car is that most people who bought convertibles didn't take care of them as well as this one has been. Definately a gem to say the least. Better to start with a clean 307 car than a basket case with better options. A factory clean car to clone is many less migranes than putting a rotbox back together. Sounds like he did well. I am old, sick and retired, but remember when these were new, and I totally agree with your assessments on this unit. X and F bodies of this generation were much well thought out than Mopars, and lasted longer too. (I am a fan of all them)

I bought the tool kit and your lessons, and they all helped me So much!!  I appreciate the knowledge. Thank you.

Gorgeous 69, AND RAG TOP! I would have to seriously entertain some black rally stripes though, otherwise perfection.  I always get under first, rust is the biggest enemy in my opinion, then accident damage, then lastly electric issues etc. Everything else mechanical, is normally straight forward, especially with rest-o-mods. Love the details! Cheers!

$35K? Dang! I want one!

I purchased a '69 elCamino Custom with the Malibu interior. Older restoration and overall it looked nice and drove well, vinyl top looked good but paint started to crack and peel up in the front wheel well arches.
I removed the bed liner with a heat gun and 1' chisel and uncovered a few dents filled with Bondo... So I continued and found a rust hole and 6 screw holes along the bed rail also filled with Bondo. I found the paint thicknesses to be about an 1/8" thick from 2 repaints on top of the original Paint.
It's the silk purse made from a sows ear, so to speak or as I refer to it as lipstick on a pig!

It’s a good buy. I do think, though that more things will tell the story once you start digging into his dream build.

My thoughts are to buy the cleanest body you can find, engine work is easy but body and rust is a major problem

Thanks for breakdown, and the full story on the asking price vs what the negotiated price was. Those details are almost always left out. While the price break he wound up with, may relate to a car I or someone else is looking at, knowing the proportion of the $50000 asking, and the seller actually accepting $35000 reality, is instructive to any less experienced buyer sitting down to to "turkey" so to speak.. Thank you sir...

Although I like resto mods, I would keep it as a survivor and use it as a daily driver in the summer. I'd definately get it repainted and replace any worn parts, but for the most part the car seems to be a good buy for the guy.

The shell is what I’d use….LS3 with a roadster chassis…

Leave the car alone.

I'd lose the hood pins first. I'd also remove that luggage rack, probably even if it was an original GM piece - someone needs one. I was thinking of Corvette Rally Wheels, but I love those matching steelies in that color, and those are some of my favorite dog-dish hub caps.
Looks like they had snaps for a tonneau cover - those holes under the greenhouse line. They're on the dash too.
Is that rocker molding original? Don't recall seeing that style on '69s - I know '67-'68s used the same or similar. Is it an original Hugger Orange car? Would've liked to see the cowl tag - Van Nuys car I'll bet.
I'd probably bolt on some OEM front disks, and a Quadrajet and intake, and possibly an HEI, and be happy with it.

💯💯💯👍👍👍

Because is missing the roof?

I hope they don't Eff it up with an LS  and 20 something inch wheels . The 307 is a great cruise night engine !

If it’s a survivor keep it a survivor maybe drop in an L30

Is your cheek ok?
