Near-Death Experiences: Proof of a Loving God? 🧠✨

From pop icons like Madonna to leading neuroscientists, countless individuals worldwide have reported powerful, life-altering near-death experiences (NDEs). But do these extraordinary accounts provide evidence of a loving God?

This week on Unbelievable?, Pastor and author John Burke shares insights from his extensive study of over 1,000 NDE accounts, arguing that these experiences offer compelling, faith-building evidence of God’s existence and the truth of the Bible.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Eben Alexander joins the debate, challenging Burke's interpretation. Initially a staunch physicalist and advocate of evidence-based medicine, Dr. Alexander's own vivid NDE—detailed in his bestselling book, "Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife"—radically transformed his understanding of life and death. Despite his profound experience, he stops short of embracing Christianity, maintaining a nuanced view of the afterlife that invites deep discussion.

Man it's crazy to me these videos don't have millions of views. I've been on a search for god my whole life and recently I've had true faith that he's real. I'm in my mid 30s now and I've noticed during the worst times in my life I turn to god and things seem to work out, always. During these times my life is filled with insane coincidences that happen on a daily basis. When I pray during these times, I feel different, I even get goosebumps sometimes. This has been consistent throughout my life. I was an atheist until I was in my early 20s and became agonistic when I realized it is just as foolish to believe there is no god, you cannot know that. Now I have fully accepted there is a god and my mood has changed for the better, life is still not easy but it feels worth fighting for. What really changed is when I started talking to god daily, even on good days. Oh, and genuinely praying for others. Everything must be genuine.

NDEs are important connections with what lay beyond our material bodies. But I'd like to give a shout out to near-life-experiences. The first time I held my first born daughter, I felt 18 years go by in a moment. My breath was taken away. And 18 years felt not long enough to have her all to ourselves. Temporal perspective seems to be at times flexible during consciousness, and on a gradient among people. A gift from Him.

🇹🇹 I've been a "fan" of Mr. Burke and have seen Dr Alexander's experience and wondered how Mr. Burke would have dealt with his experience. Thanks for this interview

My good friend told me about a NDE he had as a teenager and then said “ I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone that”.
Empty beautiful city with an old man caretaker . He did say soon as he figured out where he was, he wanted to see his childhood dog that died, or thought that, and the dog was there.
I was shocked he kept it to himself.

John did a great job of focusing on the message of eternity and the unfathomable love of God for all that is the core message of real Christianity.

Imagine if 100,000 people were asked to describe what’s a life on earth experience is like for each. Many common experiences. All would describe birth, other people, parents, the sun and moon, death, day and night, water…most would describe the same colors, having children & siblings, trees birds animals…some would describe other experiences seeing an oceans or lakes, and several might have seen giraffes, whales, mountains, deserts, having been through injury, illness, other unique experiences to them. It makes total sense to me there would be the same commonalities and overlaps and unique differences when it comes to comparing NDEs.

I believed in nothing beyond science until I learned otherwise. I learned LOVE and ONE. I knew nothing beforehand as I never grew up around religion and have never read the Bible. My brain could not have made it up.

I know that God lives within me and I believe that I can prey.without speaking out loud.. However I know that verbally saying a prayer helps me feel the nearness of God. Praying frequently helps to concrete your feelings knowing that God actually hears you speaking to Him. I love God first and everything else is after that. I have lived a reasonably long life and I know as long as God is first in your life everything else will fall into place. I’m near 80 I have a lot of life experiences. God will guide you if you allow him to do so. The word says to honor your Father and mother and you will have a long life. I live by those words. And amen!

33:08 - very good point he brings up about the accuracy of eye witness testimonies in a court of law and NDEs.

So so so well done/said Mr. Burke!!!

@soulstar067 2 years ago (edited)

The soul (Mind, Intellect, Memory) is eternal so the notion of after-life or pre-life is a moot point.
When a soul departs the body, the body becomes a corpse. NDE's is when the consciousness of the soul has left the body, rather than the soul itself. Consider these experiences as visions from the subconscious mind.

Thank you for having these two remarkable guests on the show. Dr Eben Alexander is in particular a great advocate for the existence of NDE’s & life beyond this world given his work & reputation in neuroscience. 💚
