#DarkMatter #Cloud9 #Hubble
Right now, 14 million light-years from Earth, a giant cloud hangs in the dark. It holds enough hydrogen gas to build 1 million suns. And as far as our sharpest telescopes can tell, it has zero stars. Astronomers aimed Hubble straight at its heart. They found empty space. Every galaxy we know started as a pool of gas. Then the gas lit up. Stars were born. Worlds followed. Scientists believe this cloud froze at that very first step, billions of years ago, and stayed frozen. Something heavy holds it together. Something invisible. This hidden mass outweighs the gas about 5,000 times. Scientists call it dark matter. And it makes up most of the matter in the universe. Today, we follow the trail. We visit spinning galaxies that exposed this hidden mass. We climb to a giant radio dish in the mountains of China. We weigh a ghost. And we meet a second galaxy that seems 99.9% invisible.
