Hello friends, hope you enjoy our coverage of adolescence! Obviously this is a really deep series and I wanted to cover it with as much respect as possible. Like I say in the video, if you have any thoughts to add please do comment them! There’s SO much in this series that’s basically impossible to cover every single thing but I tried my best to do so! This is also a different style of video from me covering a ‘fictional’ scripted tv show so lmk if you’d like me to do more of this!

The way Jamie constantly says he didnt do anything wrong but never once directly says he didnt do it, amazing detail from the writers

I'm possibly thinking the hot chocolate with sprinkles handed to him really showed how young he actually is because that wouldn't be the first drink of choice you would think of giving someone in an interrogation room.

i love how it feels like you are using your platform to inform and be friends with the community not just sat there with no reaction for a quick cash grab. i love  how relatable and empathetic you are <3

What sticks out to me in this show is how Jamie's mum and sister are so visibly hurt and scared by the dad's behaviour. The scene in the van after the hardware store had me shaking, watching them sit in such a closed, tense space together, trying not to break down. Trying to keep him calm. Every time Jamie's dad lashes out, the wife and daughter have to make him feel better, while he ignores his actions and pretends everything is okay.

Jamie sees this as the norm. He expects the same treatment from the therapist. But when she didn't give him any reassurance or forgiveness, he couldn't understand. He didn't realize that he hurt her. He lost her respect and damaged the friendship he thought they had. He expects women to sit back and allow men to lash out and still be there afterwards because that's what he learned from his own family.

You are completely correct about the declining lack of empathy from children. I remember when my tutor was talking about Sarah Everard and everything that happened to her, many of the boys im my class were giggling. I just remember my heart skinking in that moment and that was when i realised that me and other girls weren't safe at school. My tutor yelled at them good bless her soul but since that day, her and my other female classmates never really looked at them the same again. It blew my mind how little empathy they had. We were around 12/13 at that time (year 8), WAY over old enough to have some basic human compassion for a woman who was raped and murdered.

Rest In Peace Sarah Everard.

The acting from the child in this is just amazing

the thing i found that cemented this as a perfect show, is how they betrayed the school, students & teachers, all aspects are scarily similar to my experiences of secondary school, from the students being taught by videos, teachers being late to the girls joking if it’s a terrorist attack during a fire alarm & the boys trying to be “hard” to the police, it’s genuinely a perfect example of british secondary schools today

I can't believe people thought episode 3 was boring!!! I thought it one of the most fascinating and important things I'd ever watched!!

A small detail I like is that after one of Jamie’s outbursts, he begins to pace around in front of the door as Briony is frozen. She doesn’t want to even look at Jamie out of fear of setting him off further. As long as he’s pacing and ‘guarding’ the door, she’s trapped, and can’t leave like the first time. It’s a small thing but I think it speaks volumes about the power Jamie held in that room, sometimes without even himself realising it

I was teaching art to 5 year olds in west London and they were discussing Andrew Tate but could barely write their name, it was so wild

The ending of that show made me cry. Stephen Graham just killed it in that scene and Owen Cooper was terrifying at parts. This show is a must-watch for everyone

The people that hate episode three, don’t understand how these everyday situations affect women, the security guard is a perfect representation of the male gaze and I think this episode captures it perfectly!!!!! The psychologist was just doing her job, and still sexualised by both the security guard and Jamie is just crazy

You’re the first person I’ve heard talk about the security guard. He creeped me out, the way she’s walking away and he keeps staring at her. I once had to report a cleaner at the shopping mall  I worked at because he followed me into the stockroom

Dude, the ending, when he puts his kids Teddy to bed and kisses it its like he's saying goodbye and grieving the loss of the innocent boy he raised, like his kid died 😢😢😢

im a kid around the same age range as the main character and we had a girl die at school and it was insane to see people laugh at her for dying. completely  unbelievable to see this girls friends crying and sad and people pointing  and laughing. this series isnt exaggerating school now is exactly ike this

I’ve always loved Stephen Graham, and he has proved once again what a genius he is. He created the series, wrote it (alongside the equally excellent Jack Thorne) and acted in it. What a national treasure this man is. A true working class hero.

Bro you're bang on, episode 3 was one of the best single episodes of television ever. It showed so much. Its going to win plenty of awards

Secondary school teacher here, we have had training about incels and the "Andrew Tate effect" under the safeguarding area of radicalisation. A student in my tutor group became so obsessed with Tate last year that he was off-rolled due to making threats towards pregnant members of staff and abusing his girlfriend. He was 13 years old... The scary thing about these children (which is very accurate in adolescence) is that they never believe they have done anything wrong. They'll admit to doing or saying things, but not that it was wrong of them to do it.

As a girl who has been ass**lted in school, the boys laughing about it is super accurate. When it happened to me, a lot of lads saw it and they were friends with the guy who did it. And they all found it funny. And I would get constantly harassed by these lads and once again, all they did was find it funny. And it was even funnier to them when I'd get mad or uncomfortable. Seeing these lads laugh about the fact that a young girl had been murdered is easily the most accurate part of this show
