These two make a great couple and they should get married...
#SpoilerAlert  🥰

I freaking love this movie. At the end the didn't regressed, but he pretended to because he knew what he did and considered he didn't deserve to live anymore

if you watch this movie again you'll notice that pretty much all dialogs and scenes were made to try to bring him back to sanity. Great movie.

At the end, when Andrew muses about the fate of dying as a good man vs living as a monster, he is telling Lester that he wants the lobotomy so that he doesn't have to live as the monster who killed his wife and is partly responsible for his kids' death. He reveals to the audience that he is going into the lobotomy with full knowledge of what he is doing. There are many clues to pick up on throughout the movie demonstrating that Andrew is delusional and hallucinating that the audience can more easily notice when watching on subsequent viewings.

I love watching people's reactions to this movie. IMHO, this is an all-time great film. From the score to the acting to the writing, it deserves the highest accolades. Thanks for sharing your reaction to this one, really great choice.👍

in every scene there is fire, it's a hallucination, and every scene there is water he is lucid.

The best thing about this movie it it's unreliable narrative. We're supposed to believe everything Andrew/Teddy is true, no matter how crazy it all seems. Then, when the truth comes out, we feel the same mental breakdown as he does.

Watching the movie once you know the ending is a whole other level, there's so many giveaways that you don't notice on the first watch.
For example, the Guards not searching for the missing patient on the cliff and just sitting down, because they know it's a performance.
In the dream sequence, when Teddy hugs Dolores and touches her stomach, that spot immediately bleeds, because that's where he shot her. Like his mind is desperately trying to give him the answers but in short bursts.

the treatment did work. in the end he pretended to still be crazy and willingly chose the lobotomy

Will always be one of my favorite movies of all time

Love, Prayers and Blessings Anita and Amin

The jacket, that's a movie to watch 😊

This movie is genius.

Was great to rewatch with you two and see the looks and reactions of two people who’ve never seen this film. Listening to you try to work it all out logically and being shocked by the reveals was amazing. This film is a modern Scorsese classic that his biggest fans dismiss as OK because they don’t understand it’s about the psychological journey, not the big reveal at end. I compare this film tonally to Hitchcock’s Vertigo (1958).
Also there’s two themes running through this film. Water, representing the truth, tragedy, reality of the mind. And then there’s fire representing delusion, escape, normalcy.

Please rewatch it again and record it

This movie is great for a rewatch because you see it completely differently the second time. For instance, remember how you thought all the nurses and orderlies were lying and acting weird when "Teddy" was questioning them? If you watch it again knowing the twist, you realize that they're being made to play along with the roleplay experiment and have to pretend this patient--a guy they know as crazy, dangerous, etc--is a US Marshal who's investigating a case. Then you understand that they weren't being suspicious and sketchy but were just tired, had work to do, probably didn't really believe in this whole thing, maybe didn't like Andrew, were just normal workers and not actors who would be good at roleplay, etc. Same with why all the guards were acting so sketchy when "Teddy" and his partner first arrive at the island. You're meant to think that they're acting weird and aggressive because they're hiding some conspiracy or crime on the island but, really, they just know that this patient, Andrew, is dangerous and violent and being given the run of the island for two days, so they're on edge, not knowing what he might do if he suddenly snaps.

You'll also notice some weird visual stuff. E.g. When the patient who wrote "RUN" on the notepad goes to drink her glass of water that Dr. Sheehan brought her, we see the glass of water at first but when she actually lifts it to her mouth to drink, her hand is empty and she appears to just be pretending to drink an invisible glass of water. Why? Because Andrew is so traumatized by what his wife did to their children in the lake, he's blocking out the imagery of water.

This is def one of those movies that needs to be watched at least twice and rewards a second viewing with lots of things you will have missed the first time.

I love you two. I want to play Scrabble with you guys on a rainy day with pasta and red wine.

Wadumin exploring a whodunit. We've got to get off this rock, Chuck.

At the end he pretended he regressed again into his Edward character to be lobotomised because he could not go on living after his children death and killing his wife. And the psychiatrist got it after he told him his final line and when he didn't answer when he called him Teddy.

This movie needs to be watch at least twice to really and fully understand.

The first time watch you will be in Teddy's perspective side because he is the main character.
The second watch try to be in everyone perspective like how you view someone who is insane which is Teddy (Andrew) himself.

There are a lot of clues if you pay attention in the second watch that they all in a role play.
For example : when they first arrive on the island the guards look tense, well because they are dealing with the most dangerous patient there, Andrew laddies aka Teddy the marshal.

Second clue when they asked to surrender their guns, Chuck (Dr. Seehan) was struggling to release the gun and finally fumble the holster. That was weird, if he IS a marshal then that should be easy for him to do. But in reality since he is a Doctor whose acting to be a marshal he didn't have the experience with that kind of stuff.

There are still a lot of clues in the movie guys, so better watch again and check it out. It's really a different movie experience when you watch this movie again / second time
