We finally sat down to watch one of the most requested psychological thrillers of all time: Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. I’ve seen this movie before, but watching it through fresh eyes was a completely different experience. She had absolutely no idea what was coming!

Released in 2010, Shutter Island stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a U.S. Marshal investigating a disappearance at a psychiatric facility on a remote island. It’s a masterclass in tension, cinematography, and storytelling that keeps you guessing until the very last frame.

This is one of those movies that's almost better the 2nd time around, because all of the clues are there. I think this is Scorsese's most underrated movie.

The writer has written some great books, a number of them
having become movies afterwards (Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River, Shutter Island, The Drop, and Live by Night). The book was great for this one, but the movie ending wasn’t in the book. Instead his psychosis truly reverted. I love that the movie wrote it to seem like he knew what he was doing.

This is such a mind numbing masterpiece. Definitely a movie you need to watch a second time. That way you can see all the signs. Just to name a few, the reason the guards were so on edge when Andrew and Dr Sheehan got off the boat was because Andrew is their most dangerous patient. Every time Dr. Sheehan’s name was mentioned people stuttered cause he was right there in the room. The camera also briefly shifted to Mark Ruffalo whenever they talked about Sheehan. Sheehan had trouble handing over his gun cause he’s a doctor not a marshal. I could go on and on but the clues are there. The hallucinations also make a lot more sense the second time around. You can also see that Dr Cawley tried to subtly break Andrew’s illusion multiple times but none were working so his last try was the final confrontation in the lighthouse. Imo with the ending Andrew did not reset. He chose the lobotomy because he figured it was better than living with what he’s done

This movie is legendary in its make. I love how many people kinda assume dicaprio is off his rocker but no one ever expects the tragedy or his final acceptance.

8:37 shhhh, she missed the first clue where they show Dr Sheehan not knowing how to handle the gun. Every rewatch you can catch a different clue it's so good, like the guards always being on edge and staring at Andrew, when they just sit around doing nothing whilst "looking for Rachel", the missing glass of water at 17:51, the way Dr Sheehan is always behind and looking at Teddy protecting him and others from himself, things like Ben Kingsley saying "we have been talking Marshal...." The crazy lady at the beginning signing Shhhh to Andrew cause she knows it's all role play, etc.

Fantastic movie, great reaction! A while back I watched a whole breakdown as to how the story could also be read in a way that Leo in fact is a cop and he is made to believe all those things. I know it is not "true" but that video was hella entertaining!

Watched this whole thing just to see your wifes reaction lol one of the biggest joys of cinema that is rare these days is a great twist. Love how she almoat guessed it several times too lol going back and forth movie did good at that
