In this episode I dismantle a 1924 Model B engine and transmission and salvage some very useful parts.

This is Episode 10 of a series covering the restoration of a pre-war 1921 Ner-a-car vintage motorcycle. This involves complete disassembly and then full re-assembly and repair and/or manufacture of all the missing parts. Spares for these old bikes are unobtainable so almost everything will need to me made from scratch in The Bracket Factory workshop. I'll be using my lathe, my milling machine, my TIG welder and a large variety of hand tools to fabricate and manufacture all the parts. And my wife Nat will be my test pilot!

Thanks for clearing up the difference between a cotter pin and a cotter pin..split pins are not cotter pins

For small assemblies, like your kick-start mechanism, and that Binks carb, I've had considerable success unstinting things by sticking them in an old deep fat fryer filled with hydraulic oil. It combines sustained indirect heat, with nice thin, runny oil. Come to think of it, I can't recall a failure.

Those engines are almost coming out of the woodwork. It makes me wonder how many other bikes and cars are squirrelled away in the nooks and crannies of these isles. Thanks for showing us how you are going about this work.

Very enjoyable episode Chris. Congratulations on acquiring quite the variety of ner-a-car pieces and parts. So glad to know that 58 is "just a boy". That makes me a very young man. Now if I can get the body to cooperate with this sudden change of age! 😂 Looking forward to whatever presents itself next. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Chris. Once again separated by a common language. I remember having a cotter pin holding the pedal crank to the bottom bracket of a poor old bicycle ("push bike" I think "over there"). I always thought it was odd calling it a cotter pin as everyone knows a cotter pin is that split pin thingy. Later I had an ashtabula one-piece crank (I love that name) and then all the newer continuing saga of modernized cranks and bottom brackets. I had to work "bracket" in all over the place. Talk about suspense! Getting those fasteners out of ancient fragile aluminium was nerve wracking. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole process. Well done indeed.

Another step forward. That kickstart ratchet assembly and engine was a good find. I smiled at your "Engine Graveyard". I have one of those. I take the plug or plugs out and poor in a some thin all, then very gently turn the engine over, Finally putting the plug or plugs back in, it keeps the bores, etc, oiled. But I'm sure you do that. You don't miss anything👏 Another interesting video. I think each one you do is consistently good👍👏 Must take a considerable amount of time editing etc👍
