GOSPEL with Commentary and Blessing. Gospel of the day Thursday, October 8, 2026 Audio Gospel of the day in Italian with commentary by @frastefano Liturgy of the Word today, from the Gospel according to Luke
Glory to you, O Lord
Luke 11:5-13
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
"Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him,' and the man from inside answers him, 'Do not bother me; the door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you the loaves,' I tell you, even if he does not get up and give him because he is his friend, at least because of his intrusiveness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
Well, I say to you: ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
Word of the Lord
Praise to you, O Christ
It is beautiful to have the certainty that God always hears our prayers, certainly, because Jesus assured us of this: Well, I say to you: ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. But this promise, even though it was made by Jesus, cannot silence that inner voice that says: But can it really be so? So why have so many of your prayers gone unanswered? Because so many good, charitable, and prayerful people have knocked, but no one has opened. Think of Jesus himself crying from the cross: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? But no intervention comes from heaven, and after a long agony, Jesus dies on the cross. Yes, this is the truth: prayer nourishes faith, but in some cases it is a source of scandal. To answer, I begin with the most difficult point, that of Jesus crucified. God remained silent. But after three days, he spoke, and his word changed and overturned everything. Jesus was heard and rose again, and Golgotha, the place of evil's triumph, became God's triumph over evil and death. God is truly a Father and listens to us, and loves us, but we are not always able to understand how and when his answer arrives. We must surrender to the mystery of life and death, because neither religion, nor science, nor philosophy can provide an adequate answer. The only thing we can do is trust in God, creator of heaven and earth, and remain united with him in the Spirit. Prayer can never give us everything we need, but it keeps us united with the Father, a Father who loves his children.
