BREAKING: Shadrack Sibiya has given his version of the allegations against him during his bail application in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
The suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection denies all the charges against him and says he intends to plead not guilty.
In his bail affidavit, Sibiya addresses the allegations involving the 16-year-old girl as well as the case involving the adult complainant, who was 18 at the time.
Sibiya says the sexual encounter with the 18-year-old was consensual and denies the State’s allegation that she was raped after being intoxicated.
He also gives his explanation for how he came into possession of nude images and a video involving the 16-year-old. According to his version, the material was initially sent to him by the girl’s father, and he later says the girl herself sent additional material after asking him to investigate how her images and videos had been distributed.
The State disputes his account and has charged Sibiya with rape, human trafficking, promoting the sexual grooming of a child and two counts relating to sexual grooming.
Sibiya’s bail application is being heard under Schedule 6 provisions, with the State opposing his release.
The transcript also records a striking exchange between the court and Sibiya’s legal team over his explanation of how the video came into his possession.
So what do YOU think?
Did you expect Sibiya to give this version of events?
Do you think his bail affidavit changes the picture of the case?
Watch the full breakdown and let me know your thoughts in the comments.
IMPORTANT: The allegations discussed in this video remain allegations. Sibiya has denied the charges and has indicated that he intends to plead not guilty. Nothing in this video should be interpreted as a finding of guilt.
