I am 55 and lost so many beautiful souls to AIDS. It's about fucking time we talk about AIDS again and how it destroyed and devastated an entire GENERATION. I say this with kindness but the younger generations need to understand what happened.
I remember the sweet young boys, selling used sweaters at a little yard sale in Texas. Walking on eggshells, telling inside jokes, feeling me out, testing me because I wanted to know what they were raising funds for. 😢I wasn’t much older than they, an under 30 suburban mom pushing a stroller. One said ‘hospice care for a friend’ and started crying and of course I understood. I bought all the sweaters left on the table. Then we walked down to the coffee shop and had a drink because it had started to rain. Sweet boys, all thin. One with purple spots and a sore on his lip who kept assuring me none of the sweaters were his.
Just seeing the trailer I see an Academy Award for best Actor for Andrew Scott! I almost don’t want to watch it because I know I will cry from beginning to end
I don't often say this but full body chills--a lot of personal resonance for me-theater kid, lost friends and colleagues to AIDS-and of course just appreciate these great actors.
Charleston has been waiting in the wings for a very long time since his death. It’s now time for his entrance. This film looks like a worthy dedication to his memory.
I had the enormous privilege of seeing Ian Charleson's performance of Hamlet at the National. We went on a school trip, getting the coach down from Liverpool. We saw it in October and he died the following January. With Andrew Scott and Johnny Flynn, this looks unmissable!
I would say it would make an excellent double feature with Hamnet but I don’t think I’d have eyes left after all the weeping. This looks exquisitely done in all aspects. Bring on all the awards! Every one of them!
