Robin Trower had a huge tone and was known for playing 70 Strats, low output pickups which produce a low inductance ie 70 pickups are super, it’s the perfect spec for great Strat tone, wound by machine actually gives a low coil capacitance which allows a good range.

So truth be told… not much of a Counting Crows fan… but whenever Mick or Dan share their choices for any incoming question, I pause the video and go listen to the song. This live performance of Anna Begins from VH1 Storytellers is eye-wateringly good. The arrangement and delivery is a masterpiece. Others should check it out if you haven’t already. Mick thank you for sharing! And kudos to VH1 for such a powerful series (bring it back!)  When you get to hear the backstory of any song, the emotion is that much more palpable. If you need me, I will be looking online for a sunburst 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue for sale. 🙏

The word totally brings ton mind the periodic table of elements.  Each element is totally itself but chemistry is the reaction between them.

Strange thing to say maybe, but I really like, how you two legends has ZERO problem saying "We dont know" if you dont know something, instead of trying to look all clever and made up stupid shit in fear of loosing credibility.
Never change, please.

Much love <3.

Re: Nashville tuning – Elliott Smith wasn't just the greatest songwriter of his generation, he was also a PHENOMENAL guitarist, and he liked to run Nashville-tuned guitars into his AC30s (and occasionally a silverface Vibrolux). He had at least one Ric 12; I'm not sure if he ever tried the Nashville thing with his main guitars, which were all Gibson ES-330s from the late ’60s and early ’70s. You can hear him doing some incredible Nashville-tuned fingerpicking on "Tomorrow, Tomorrow." (He may, bizarrely, have done that track on the same Martin D-18 Kurt Cobain used for NEVERMIND, because it belonged to Kurt's onetime girlfriend Mary Lou Lord, who then lent it to Elliott after Kurt died.)

Another fan here, would be nice to see an episode about speaker selection. I remembered Michael Landau saying that speakers are way more important than amp selection :)

Rosie for the win!   Oh, and the Vibroverb too!  Wowza!!!

I come here for the guitar/pedal/amp talk but really enjoy when you talk about personal things (like the career changes) too! The charm of the show really boils down to the fact that the two of you are really wonderful people! Would love to see you come across the pond to play some shows - maybe someday.

All that love for the Fender Super Sonic 100 makes me miss mine. The clean channel had two foot switchable voicings. The gain channel was a little confusing at first. Gain 1 and Gain 2 were interactive. Couldn't switch between the two. Massive sounds from that beast.

My current fav dual amp setup is a tweed Deluxe and an AC15. I set the Deluxe for a bit of mid scoop (turn up the Vol on the channel you’re not using ‘til you get the right amount of scoop) with the Tone up higher than normal. I also use an old GE 6072A (12AY7 variant) in the first gain stage for more headroom. The Vox does its lovely punchy midrange thing, which blends well with the Deluxe.

Having over 2grand in gigrig power supplies, after purchase you don't ever think about the cost, but if I'm running different power it is noticeable and sounds muddier. Truly the system is cheap, when considering it's modular and can be scaled to what you need. Had a board with 30 pedals at one time.

Steeley Dan suggestion is Pretzel Logic or Dirty work.

When I heard "I cannot get my OCD to be quiet" I really felt that. Then I realised they were talking about a pedal.

I’ve been seeing this episode in parts, (busy with work and life)and I just got to the part where Rosie appears and I just went as happy as Mik! God! I love dogs and I love how you guys enjoy her and liver as well! 💓

Yes, my experience has been that one amp sounds better than the other but, not great , and together are like another amp altogether - with the bonus of speaker separation.

All virtual worlds suffer from the limitation of being the product of desire to manipulate human perception.  Perceiving what is requires far more understanding and take the participant way beyond the limitations of a virtual environment.

To the guy who asked for a boost not making your gainstage muddy: try the Benson preamp... Bass not more than 12 o clock, treble at least two o clock gain about 9 o clock and volume about half way up... That should keep everything clear

Can’t wait to see your RE-202 vs 201 video deep dive. I just received my 202 last week and it’s an amazing inspiration tool for me.
Regarding the Habit, it’s a bleepy bloopy thing to me (sorry, no disrespect) and can’t fathom it’ll be 100 percent your cup of tea being traditionalists like me. But I’d love to see you guys try that too.

Wow! Didn't even think to look at settings on that my waza air app even it kept turning off if plugged into the pedalboard! That's game changing help. Thanks as always!

Man the conversation about leaving a big status-filled job to be on your own really hit home.
such an interesting conversation—I went through all that. it’s life-changing. and part of it for me was being in meetings and offices and getting paid a bunch of money with no time left to play guitar and daydreaming about just being able to play guitar…
