Beautiful Zacatecas and Magical Jerez: History, Food, Music, Traditions and a Night Tour
.
Jerez, officially named Jerez de García Salinas, is a charming Pueblo Mágico located in the Mexican state of Zacatecas. Founded in 1592, it is famous for its well-preserved colonial architecture, equestrian culture (charrería), and for being the birthplace of traditional tamborazo zacatecano (brass and percussion) music.
.
Zacatecas is a stunning, mountainous state in north-central Mexico renowned for its rich silver mining history, vibrant indigenous culture, and well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture. Its capital city—also named Zacatecas—is a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring pink-stone buildings, winding cobblestone streets, and a fascinating, high-altitude setting
.
Key Highlights:
UNESCO World Heritage City: The capital's historic center is famous for the Baroque-style Zacatecas Cathedral and its steep, picturesque streets.
Cerro de la Bufa: A dramatic peak overlooking the city, accessible by a scenic cable car, offering panoramic views and housing a monument to a pivotal Mexican Revolution battle.
Mine Exploration: Visitors can descend into Mina El Edén, a historic 16th-century silver mine that tunnels directly beneath the city and even features an underground nightclub.
World-Class Museums: The city boasts impressive art institutions like the Museo Pedro Coronel, which exhibits pieces by Picasso, Dalí, Goya, and Miró

Zacatecas is located in the center-north of Mexico, and covers an area of 75,284 km2, the tenth-largest state in the country. It borders the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Coahuila, and Durango and is divided into 58 municipalities and 4,882 towns, cities, and other communities.
.
Once the haunt of miners and non-sedentary tribal peoples, Zacatecas is unique, mountainous, and far off the normal tourist circuit. It's a dramatic and beautiful land of temperate climates, forests and ruddy mountain villages. The capital can seem outrageous in it's audacity and elevation, but it's a welcoming wool-sweater community just the same. No fewer than seven pueblos magicos mark the must-visit landscape with memory, culture, architecture, and unique environments for visitors and residents alike. To know each of them would make one a truly well-rounded Zacatecan, but even one or two will leave any visitor feeling very privileged indeed

Historic Centre of Zacatecas
Founded in 1546 after the discovery of a rich silver lode, Zacatecas reached the height of its prosperity in the 16th and 17th centuries. Built on the steep slopes of a narrow valley, the town has breathtaking views and there are many old buildings, both religious and civil. The cathedral, built between 1730 and 1760, dominates the centre of the town. It is notable for its harmonious design and the Baroque profusion of its façades, where European and indigenous decorative elements are found side by side.
