This is your inner voice speaking to you.

I've been listening to them for many years. I have introduced people in my life to their wonderful music. This reminds me of that. Good job.

I feel like the song is about blaming yourself and punishing yourself and needing to forgive yourself

the lyrics are like the alcohol talking to the person addicted to

Metallica's song structure varies, but always includes the following:

1. An intro that builds in layers of guitar scales/guitar chords/bass/drums with no vocals. It leads up to the steady rhythm for the vocal section.

2. Usually 2 vocal sections first (with a chorus), then a solo after the 2nd chorus (the "main"/catchy part of the song) - also a dynamically layered "bridge" that comes before and/or after the solo. There's also solo's in the intro, before the first verse, and after the 2nd verse.

3. Then, usually, comes the 3rd verse and chorus

4. Another bridge/solo/harmony section, and sometimes vocals

5. Extended ending.

The song is basically about denial, oppression, desire, and weakness.

All the things we do behind closed doors, all the things we've done that we know weren't right, is Sad But True

I feel like most Metallica songs are just confessions.

The lyrics to 'Sad but true'... refer to addiction. Often addicts are treated like they have a disease that is their addiction; almost like another character that resides in one person that drives them to abusing substances... James Hetfield (vocals/ guitar) of Metallica has struggled w/ alcohol abuse and he recalled that in Metallica's early days, he would get ripped on booze while on tour, thus engaging in self-destructive behavior... Hetfield entered rehab numerous times to treat his alcoholism and other members of Metallica have also had similar experiences w/ addiction.

It's about the fact that we all have a darker side, and how we should all recognize it, deal with it, and not just push it down and pretend that it doesn't exist. It doesn't necessarily mean we should embrace it...just that we should know that it's there, and pretending that it's not is unhealthy.

All of us in our lives have put ourselves in difficult situations only realizing when it is too late it could even be just as simple as saying a word we shouldn't have.

This was my favourite Metallica song and metal song from 1994 to 1996!! Still one of their best songs to this very day...

I like how you broke down what you thought the song was about at the end but you should do a deep dive on the meaning of this song afterwards to find out how close your interpretation was.
