Hey Freiburger, just a little FYI. I’ve hade probably a dozen or more of the AMC 360 Wagoneer and Cherokee. They all had fuel issues! What I found, to be the most common issue is that when the pump (electric or mechanical) feels like it either isn’t keeping up or vapor locking, it’s most likely sucking air. The hoses at the top of the fuel tank pickup are usually compromised and aren’t sealing to the tubes. Especially with California gas. The second thing I have found, the metal fuel lines run between the drivers frame rail and fuel tank. The fuel tank skid plate basically acts as a dirt, mud, snow catch all and literally packs the frame rail solid with junk. Which on a couple occasions I have found to rot the metal fuel lines and make little pin holes. It doesn’t show signs of leaking but will suck air under hard load. And… I’ve never quite found a 4brl I liked to reliably power the AMC 360. Surprisingly a Motorcraft 2brl that can be found on later models, with good tuning, RIPS!!! 51:26

Watching you struggle and still not take the sprayer off the end of the hose to flush the heater core was one of the hardest things i've watched in a while.. haha.

Here's a tech tip:After you degrease a cast aluminum part like an intake, hit it with an acidic wheel cleaner for bare aluminum wheels. Let it sit and then scrub it with a wire brush by hand. It will get it so clean it almost looks new.

I had the same problem, fought it for days and days finally dropped the fuel tank and found that the pick up hose was cracked, the screen was completely missing and I never did find the float.

And even with five or 6 gallons of gas. It wasn’t picking up any fuel. I wound up replacing the entire fuel system with an aftermarket tank. All is well now. I really appreciate this video as I’m planning on putting that exact same manifold with a fuel injection system. Cheers 🤙🏼

Fuel pick up or a rusted tank. They sell a plastic replacement tank for these and also the 20 gallon square tank from an S10 blazer fits perfect between the frame rails in the rear.

I have a 1950 Chevy truck I bought 20 years ago and had the same problem,, it would run about 20 minutes then starve/die out of fuel,, an old mechanic stopped to help and told me once I got it home to remove the gas cap,, remove the fuel line at the pump and blow air from a compressor back to the tank because I probably had sediment all around the tank screen,, I did what he told me ,, watched gas shoot out of the tank and never had an issue since ,, all because of some sediment floating around in the tank 😉👍🇺🇸 Old mechanics are the best !! 😉

How does Freiburger NOT have an air compressor!? Immersed in the car culture for decades, swap meet after swap meet, project after project. I'm baffled. Also, take the hose nozzle off lol. Great channel of course.

David, "lift pump" claims would be something that gets fuel from the rear to a higher pressure pump or surge tank up front. Meaning it has the ability to be drawn through if it's not needed or shuts off. Suction pump would be a "puller" pump instead of a pusher. I've never had those clicky clacky pumps last long having to pull fuel further than a few feet, gravity fed. Those newer  pumps just aren't as good as the old diaphragm clicky clacky ones from back in the day. Even a foot away they won't pull fuel if mounted above the tank with a top feed sender such as factory tanks. If it's a fuel cell or a tank with a sump it would work better and probably last longer.
I wouldn't totally rule out a small leak in the line somewhere that whistles under pressure since you're expanding the line and forcing air out but may not show a wet spot or leak under suction since you're constricting the hose pulling pressure through it.

On an 89 Wrangler, I had the very same issue. Would not run 65 for long. Finally found body mount bushings had collapsed and pinched fuel line near tank.

It's a 50 year old fuel tank.
Goodness only knows how much rust and dirt is in it. Gotta drop it, take it to your radiator guy and have it boiled.
