This was one of Woody’s strongest bands. Giants in every section and a dynamite rhythm section. A great memory. I saw this band in person at least twice.
25-year-old Allen Vizzutti playing lead trumpet all night (including double A's and G#'s on 'Corazon' and 'La Fiesta') AND then playing 'Firedance' 40 minutes in on a 1-hour set. CHOPS!
As a jazz major at Indiana University, I had the great privilege several years ago to jam with Bruce Johnstone at his home in Erie, PA. To be world renowned, he is a very nice and humble man.
This is from the European tour, late 1977. Woody was involved in a car accident early in 1977 and the first time | saw him that year was opening for Bob Hope in July when he was using a walker and sitting on a stool. As you can see he was using a cane here. This was a killer band.
At the beginnig Woody was welcomed by Willis Conover (of course), Aleksiey Batashev (Russian jazz writer) and Andrzej Jaroszewski (MC during this show).
THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST BAND WOODY EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!!!! BAR NONE !!!!!!! THANKS FOR POSTING ENTIRE CONCERT FOR THE FIRST TIME . HAVE HAD THE POLISH ALBUM IN MY COLLECTION I HOPE MIKE BRIGNOLA CHECKS THIS ONE OUT....
