During the 1800s (including the Civil War era), U.S. uniform buttons for specific branches or company letters sometimes featured an embossed letter on the shield or face of the eagle design. An "H" commonly denoted Company H of a specific volunteer regiment or state infantry unit. Very cool!
Awesome find. I'm in Ontario Canada and back in march, one of the first few times I got out this year I found a WW1 cap badge in the shape of a maple leaf and it is even my local county and battalion. probably my best relic find. couple weeks ago I did an 1880 house permission and I found my first ever queen Victoria quarter 1871 2nd year of quarters for Canada and I dinged it with my hand digger unfortunately because its in xf40 to almost uncirculated condition.
The best finds come when you are not expecting it. Nice relic Walter. Those Icon's are performing great in the trashy iron sites. Very interesting .You make it look easy.
