Watching La La Land (2016) for the very first time! I've heard this is one of the greatest modern musicals ever made, but I had no idea what to expect...

You have the most prolific vocabulary of anyone I've ever heard. Love your reviews. They make me think and, sometimes, have to reach for the dictionary - which is not a bad thing!

@Mr Valentine I thank my uncle for my love and obsession for film and cinema and a part of that was the musical genre. Sad it is all but dead now but when done right (which this is/was) can make for a unique experience and unique look and feel which this has in spades. Appreciate you doing all kinds of films on the channel :)

The opening scene is not a one-shot. I saw an interview with the choreographer who said there are 3 cuts...The Lovely Night scene is a one-shot, though. And yes, that's Emma Stone singing...impressed? Wait for Audition, the song and scene that clinched her Oscar.

Mr. Valentine:
A great, great reaction on your part to "A HARD DAY'S NIGHT" (1964); I really enjoyed your spot-on (You-Get-It!) commentary.
Please watch "HELP!" (1965); it's (not as good, but...) more of the slapstick and witty dialogue from the charismatic four who were so effortlessly adept at it - it's the "Liverpool Irish" in them - and is filmed in glorious "TECHNICOLOR" at the height of the mid-sixties "BEATLEMANIA - JAMES BOND MOVIES" craze era.

I found your channel this week and have been binging your reactions - I would love to see you react to Merrily We Roll Along. It’s a recording of a broadway musical available on Netflix, and I think you would have incredible things to say about its nonlinear structure and commentary on the human experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved MOONLIGHT, but LA-LA-LAND holds more importance in my life. The ability to reconcile the differences between individuals in relationships that don’t work. To love someone with whom you once were in love. Count me as Team La-La-Land!
p.s. It’s also a sincere love letter to Hollywood.
