Henri IV has taken the lead of the Protestants and marches on Paris, ready to do battle with the Catholics and in particular with his mother's rival: the powerful Catherine de Medici.
Reconciliation between the two clans seems within reach, when the Queen offers her daughter Margot in marriage. The wedding turns into a bloodbath... Henri survives the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre only to be taken prisoner. Incarcerated in the Louvre, he spends 4 years there before being able to escape.
He will spend the rest of his life opposing by all the means at his disposal those who have neither moral sense nor humanism. To achieve this, he will not hesitate to change religion. The trials that mark his accession to the throne will shape the monarch he became: the first true humanist.
