June 22, 1944: The Day Bagration Began the End of Army Group Centre
At five minutes past three on the morning of the twenty-second of June, nineteen forty-four, Soviet guns opened fire on the German trenches north of Vitebsk. A young German officer named Armin Scheiderbauer was in those trenches with the two hundred and fifty-second infantry division.
