I’m a retired detective. I got pulled over last year for an incomplete stop at a sign. The officer asked, “Where are you heading tonight?” I replied, “When you pulled me over I was headed east.” He didn’t like that. He then asked, “Do you know why I pulled you over?” I replied, “Well, hopefully because you have reasonable suspicion that I have commented a traffic infraction under Title 9.” He was dumbfounded. He then asked for my license and then saw my State Police retirement I.D. He said, “If you’re a retired officer then why are you being so difficult. I said, “Because I’m a retired police officer!”

A year ago a cop pulled me over for a BS reason and asked me where I was headed. I said, "Home" and then he proceeded to argue with me about the direction I was traveling. Understand that I knew my way home and he didn't seem to know his way around town. He kept asking me why I was traveling in that direction and I kept saying, " because that's the direction I live"....but he insisted I was wrong. The conversation got heated as I outlined the street names to get home but he just couldn't seem to grasp it in his little pea brain. For a minute he looked like he wanted to arrest me for lying to him but I wasn't and then a light bulb seemed to go off in his head that I was right. Without saying another word he walked back to his car and drove off. I really have to wonder what the hiring standards are for police today.

The trap-phrase I've gotten has been "So, what's the hurry?". If you say, "I wasn't hurrying", they'll lie and say you were speeding, according to their speed radar. Or they'll act offended that you are arguing with them and being combative. If you say, "I was on my way home", then you de facto admit to the charge that you were speeding, and you get ticket. Cops are trained to get you to admit to charges, even if you didn’t do anything wrong. And then they wonder why people don't trust cops.
