Today we’re reacting to “Enter Sandman” by Metallica, one of the most iconic metal songs ever released.
The track comes from the self-titled album Metallica (The Black Album) and features the unforgettable guitar riff written by Kirk Hammett, along with the powerful rhythm section of James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
“Enter Sandman” helped bring heavy metal into the mainstream in the early 1990s and remains one of the band’s most recognizable songs.

In this reaction, we talk about:
The instantly recognizable opening guitar riff
The dark atmosphere created by the arrangement
The groove of the rhythm section
James Hetfield’s vocal delivery and phrasing
Why this song became a defining metal anthem

As musicians, we were especially interested in how the song balances heaviness, groove, and accessibility.
Let us know what Metallica or metal song we should react to next!
