I've made a lot of mistakes over the course of my publishing journey, and so have plenty of other authors. These are what I believe to be the 5 biggest mistakes new self-published authors make.

less than 2 mins in. THANK YOU for pointing out that pro editors are expensive. i see so many baby authors blowing thousands on professional edits, then despairing at not recouping that cost.

This video was right on time! Here's a few things I've learned while self publishing 3 books...

Cream paper is generally associated with fiction, white paper with nonfiction. Another thing is to always order multiple proof copies to make sure the words on the spine don't shift too much on each individual reader copy

Very happy that I am already nailing all of these for my debut in November.
The sheer amount of writers I see on reddit that fail at every single one, though, is astonishing, so videos like these are clearly needed for the community. Thank you!

Also, Authors Guild has a looooong video of all the standards books (trad and indie) need to meet to be a professional looking book. They cover everything.

I dunno. I'm pretty sure I'm a special unicorn. Maybe even an alicorn. There are TENS of readers out there that don't even know they are waiting for my book.

Definitely published my first book too soon. The formatting was terrible.I didn't know the process and am not a computer lover. It took time to get it right.

Thank you. I don’t feel so bad now. I made the initial mistakes you mentioned because I was so excited. Assuming it was perfect. Now that I know how embarrassing and anxiety inducing it is to miss a typo after releasing it, I will be more cautious and patient the next time around!! It’s been quite the learning experience.

You are a gift to self-publishing authors! I'm so grateful for finding your youtube channel and eventually working with Enchanted Ink. You all helped me make my novels something I can be very proud of. This is great advice! Thank you Natalia and I look forward to working with you this Fall. 💖

Thank you for doing this video I am right on the precipice of self-publishing, so I really do appreciate it.

Super helpful! I'm still finishing my 1st draft, but this is a perfect time to be considering these ideas. I also cheated on the cover design, because my wife is an artist with a marketing degree, so she's been handling my cover and other illustrations (it's a fantasy novel, so there's a map, small images at the start of each chapter, and character concept art that will be on the web site). Thank you for this video.

Hi Natalie, I love your videos and am a subscriber. I retired from high school teaching and now have time to write fiction full time! I’m writing cozy mysteries.

I appreciate your desire to pay it forward and help aspiring authors learn the ins and outs of indie publishing.

The internet has figured out I’m writing a book and the scams have already started. I’ve even been offered a Netflix movie, which is pretty amazing, considering I haven’t even finished the book yet, hahaha!

Thank you!

Thanks for such great information. I am helping my mom with her first book. But I don't have a background in publishing so it's slow going. This has been extremely helpful so thank you so much

I would publish a book even if I knew I would lose money on it. I want to share the story I've created with as many as possible. To succeed in that, everything need to be as close on point as possible!

Hi Natalia, I have watched quite a few of your videos over the last few weeks and have enjoyed them all quite a bit, so thank you :). I think i liked them all but will double check also ;). Wait, that looked wrong after i typed it :)) i meant i think i gave them all them thumbs up but will check. You probably knew what i meant but..😁
One question i did have tho, and i hope this doesn't sound whiney or is problematic is that you mentioned in several videos that you might do a "Show Don't Tell" explanation video and i did a search but couldn't find one. Maybe i used the wrong key words?
