I keep imagining the reaction of the customer when tries it :)

Overtones really came to life in those lower notes!

Even to a layman like myself, you can hear a huge difference in the sound quality. 🤯

Your videos of waking up an old violin that has been dormant for many years or repairing someone's beloved violin are the best on youtube. Quiet and reflective.

Hi from the U.K. Have just sat down to have a cup of tea after my cello practice and this is perfect viewing.

I don't know what she paid for that service but with those results it has to be a good deal.

I love the format of the video to compare the old sound versus the new sound!

I’m an engineer and ever since I found this channel I’ve been utterly fascinated by it.  I’ve read a couple of introductory music theory books many, many years ago but I’ve never played an instrument and have forgotten how to read music.  But still, the technical aspect of violin design and repair makes me dream of designing a modern violin that uses modern materials, is completely tunable in a host of aspects without disassembly and by the player, is not fragile, is unaffected by moisture and humidity, can play as loud as desired within a practical limit, and doesn’t go out of tune, amongst other things.  The design would start with a finite element program and would model all of the resonance aspects of the existing design and materials, then move on to replicate that with tuneability and new concepts and opportunities.  How cool would that be!

Before I retired I directed a similar multi-million dollar program to model tires, which is every bit as challenging, involving nonisotropic materials (similar to wood) and such, so it’s indeed quite possible.

The change in tone.. the entire balance and how it holds the note .. that was rather fascinating to hear.
Thank you from NRW ;)

Your talent in releasing the true quality of this instrument is so impressive!  Thank you!

Olaf is so interesting to listen to too, his knowledge is amazing!

I appreciate these videos Olaf. I find it fascinating. And oddly calming. Thanks Olaf!

What a vast improvement!

So much better sound after the service.

Another excellent video! I really like the editing to do the side by side at the end

Boy that is a huge difference ! Totally amazing ..you are the man :-) Thanks for sharing

WOW it sounded like a Kmart fiddle before, now it is a Violin!

🎉Thank you for saving me a headache. This different heart height in the bridge really was eye opening. I collect master violins from 1951 Cappicioni, 1975 Bignami and more. Great work.

This was great Olaf.  I used to call that before sound "boxy" and nobody knew what I meant- I'll use "dull" and "less responsive" now.  Very eye-opening how an improper set-up can make a good violin sound bad.  I didn't realize you could adjust that string spacing at the nut.  I would tell my teacher I had fat fingers and needed a violin with a wider neck and he'd say they are not as fat as Itzhak Perlmans and he has no trouble playing (I'll bet Itzhak had his string spacing adjusted!)

Even with my “tin ear” i can tell that it sounds much better
