It's astonishing how many beautiful things can be done with bricks. Love those white star like patterns on the curved building ❤

The plan was developed around 1996. Which explains why it's lower density than they would build now. They thought they were building the final piece of the city, and were competing with Almere. I remember at that time this was considered "way outside the city center". These days we consider it super centrally located. The designs themselves are newer though. In that way we are lucky the construction was delayed because current architecture is way higher quality in general compared to 10 or 15 years ago.

I lived in The Netherlands for several months. Likeable country, people and charming urbanism. There are many things other countries should learn from.

I absolutely love how the cars are off the street. I hope that will be the new normal.

Ik was erg onder de indruk van de kwaliteit van de huizen en gebouwen, maar nog meer van de Amsterdamse sfeer die ze er in hebben weten te brengen. Perfect voor een heerlijke wandeling!

I love that Brick Expressionism is being revived in a contemporary way.

Just to think how much we progressed from the early 1990s... In 1991 I came to live in Diemen Noord and never liked it although at that time it was praised as best and newest etc. This all however, looks really good and sustainable, I think it will be very successful. Although I dread to think what these apartments actually cost... Anyway: great video, thanks!

The building at 30:37 is indeed the most stunning. The arched windows give it a beautiful look. I wonder who the architects are.

It's so nice how each island has its own architectural style!  Some of them are quite beautiful.

The Netherlands create such nice new quarter to live in . In Flanders they commence to replicate it too which is great

Cool to see the 'amsterdamse school' building design. They are the litteral design for the dutch themed medium housing units in cities skylines 2. Strong design identity to say the least.

Best city in Europe getting new beautiful neighborhoods... My niece is starting her master degree in the Netherlands in September, this uncle will be visiting, let me tell you that.

Architects should take noise isolation more in consideration when designing a building.

I looked around this place a few years ago when not all construction was finished, yet people were only just moving, and the feeling was that of a canvas being slowly filled in by a new population.
Having lived in several parts of old Amsterdam for decades I was really happy to see how lessons have been learned about not throwing away the soul of this unique city.
What I agree with felt more or less absent (but it might approve with time) was a network of cornershops of all kinds (from groceries and flowers to whatever) and most of all pubs, in short what keeps up the invisible fabric between people sharing the same neighbourhood.

An  absorbing, informative and beautifully presented documentary. Very astute and observant with attention to detail. A fair assessment of the development

Hey Reuben, we got water in our last canal two weeks ago, so it looks even more amazing. Come back and see!

I wish new Polish housing estates looked like that. There’s such a diversity of interesting architectural approaches, yet they still feel very cohesive and consistent. Greetings from Poland.

the main road should have large trees lining the streets, providing a canopy. apart from that, it's overall a great development.

The urban design was done by my friend the distinguished architect Sjoerd Soeters from Amsterdam, whose firm PPHP has designed many similar projects incliuding Java Eiland in the Amsterdam Eastern Harbour and also the superb Sluseholmen District in Copenhagen. Sjoerd understands Amsterdam's urban history so well, and celebrates its diverse architectural cultures.

Looking forward to 37 minutes of information.
Make the world beautiful again!
