Whether you use a 500-volt or 1000-volt unit, or 10 amps or 100 amps, there is simply no way to locate it... that is why you must use a TDR " Time Domain Reflectometry" to find faults, measure cable length...."Signal Injection" , Before getting started or diving into the details, you forgot to mention that both ends of the cable must be left open—they should not be connected to each other. Personally, I believe using a TDR device is the best way to obtain quick and accurate results regarding cable dimensions; a Megger meter only indicates the presence of a fault without pinpointing its exact location. The TDR measures the exact time it takes for the echo to return. By knowing the speed of the signal inside that specific cable type, it calculates the exact distance to the fault Sorry for my English.

I will be using this to teach my class.

Great video, everything was explained very well. I stuck with a 1587 and love the many projects and service calls that thing’s helped me with

Thank you!

Very helpful!

Schluter requires 1G ohm or greater for their DITRA-heat wire…4000M ohm confused me on my test till you mentioned that means the wire jacket is good.

Watched fifty install vids, you’re the only guy that explained the Megger meter correctly.

Appreciated👍🏽

Great video! I just bought this meter and your explanation makes things clearer!

Excellent Video, no nonsense, on point. Thank you.

This video is very informative

Thanks

they're constantly needed for inverter systems (mini splits especially)

I found it very useful… thank you for sharing man

Thanks

Great video, thank you for the knowledge

Excellent presentation.

This is an awesome video I learnt some things thanks and good job man

Pretty good video lesson - Couple of points:  New installation needs to have Megger reading above 1 gig, systems that have been in service for quite a while can have as a standard of voltage plus 1 Meg is acceptable.  Aka.. 120 volts + 1 Meg = 1.25 Meg ohm could be acceptable.  Any customer that would accept anything under 1 Gig Ohm on a new installation does not know electricity.  It should be wrote into the contract the acceptable values for testing that needs completed prior to customer acceptance..

Great video

super helpful!! Thank you so much!

Thank you this is a good video

I was taught to never megger anything at a voltage higher than the voltage rating of the insulation. You can cause insulation failure. When meggering a motor you can’t exceed the volts per turn rating of the motor.

Essential for testing insulated heating elements, such as in ovens, grills etc. when finding faults that trip earth leakage breakers.

I use this regularly. The minimum resistance we need to see is 1 KOhm / Volt. Why  thats the resistance of air. any lower one has to look for an error ... Basic stuff. in your case 120 KOhm minimum. Over here 230 Volts so 230 KOhm.
